Does anybody know if a vehicle info center from a 96 GC, would connect to a 93 GC. Theres one on ebay. Most parts from 93 - 98 are interchangeable, is this one? The holes for the screws seem to line up the same, & it has the same screen and set & select buttons

Hi there
Im sorry to say but the 96 VIC will NOT work with your 93. Heres why: The wiring configuration was changed in 1996. All the wiring for the door sensors and other things where consolidated into CCD bus channels. In other words the 1993-1995 units were designed were the door sensors were individually wired. I believe if not mistaken that the 1996 GC started using BCM modules to handle, field and interpret data to the VIC. If you have further tech questions repsond back.

Thanks. The reason why i needed one was that, One day i was driving and my VIC started smoking, fuse blew shortly after. 4 mths ago my overhead console which never came on, ever, since 2 yrs of jeep ownership suddenly started showing orange line across the display, then last mth, started smelling something burning.it was the display,i tried unpluging it but the courtesy lights dont come on when the doors open. Q1- What causes vehicle electronics to burn.Q2- What should i do.

Hi ther
If you find another VIC. Be sure its the one for 1993 to 1995 models. Try Ebay! or your local salvage yard for that part, not too expensive. Dealer always way expensive.
But before installing it, remove the old VIC and examine all the pigtail connectors for frayed or exposed wiring and possible breaks. Make sure the power supply 12VDC didnt short into a sensor wire or something. Invest in a 1995 ChryCo service shop manual, which again might be found on Ebay!.
another reason the VFD display driver circuits which contains a transformer coil / and driver IC circuitry may have commited suicide on you. They can do that on a rare ocassion and that ocassion was you. Check all your fuses, which are located on the right side of your dash abbutting the glove box. You need to open the PAX front door to access this fuse block. Check your power distribution fuses under the hood. It wont hurt to look.

My VIC is complaining "rear lamp failure". When I start the car it doesn't come on until I press the brake pedal. I checked both tail lights, pulled them out, all bulbs are working. Only thing I noticed was that on left side somebody did replace the tail light assembly-he cut the wires and re-connected them-there is some, neathly wrapped, electrical tape. So everything is in place, everything looks connected properly, but computer complains. Is there a way to check the little module on the back of the light assembly that probably sends the signal to VIC? Does enybody have the wiring for that?
Does anybody have pinout (what is what pin on the connector) of the VIC? This pisses me off so much, that I'm thinking of just cutting the proper wire at the VIC and just forget about that function.
Any ideas? thanks!

You are not alone with this failure message! Many others including me are experiencing this. All you can do is recheck all the bulbs and MAKE SURE THEY ARE THE CORRECT ONES, with the correct numbers. I found 4 wrong bulbs myself from the previous owner! The center stop lamp will have 2 or 3 bulbs, mine had 2 (94 Grand) and they were both the wrong bulbs. Since I have corrected the problem, the message still persists, just when I start the unit and press the brake and throw 'er into reverse. I am at my wits end also, although this procedure seems to work for some of the others. Someone once mentioned that perhaps the unit can be taken (like you will be) to the "stealership" where they can reset the VID or something. I have heard that the unit samples the voltage that comes across from the lamps and if they arent just so, well you know. Keep us posted!

OK, that was an interesting info: what is the right lightbulb? I have generic, cheap ones in there. I'll visit a dealer and ask them about this. Will let u know. Thanks.

check recheck and triple check the bulbs.
check all the brake light while someone is holding the brake pedal down, double check the center "HIGH MOUNT" stop light like KEN said 2 or 3 bulbs in here. also check both the reverse bulbs (have someone place the jeep in reverse and check both bulbs), and check the license plate bulbs (turn on the headlights not in the AUTO position and check both bulbs there are 2 bulbs in for the license plate).
and then go through and check for the right bulb type.
believe me I went through hell, I looked at all these bulbs at least 10 times before I found the culprit. I had a friend check them once (while hitting the brakes, tranny in reverse, etc.) he said they were all good, yet everytime I started the jeep/ hit the brakes this damn display would pop up.
finally I got sick of it while in the parking lot at the store, I had my g/f put the jeep in reverse - both bulbs are fine, turn light on - both license plate bulbs were fine, hit the brakes - nope they all seemed fine, then I stepped back and went over each bulb carefully driverside brake - fine, passengerside brake - fine, then center highmount - and there it was one of the bulbs (2 in my jeep) was out.
it is difficult to notice that the bulb is bad, remember to do this at night and while having someone hit the brake, it is alot easier to see at night, also go over each bulb indivisually, don't just look at them and assume there fine, the HIGH MOUNT CENTER light is hard to see b/c the bulbs are so close to each other.
