88 ram pickup more hp ??????wally88 05-09-2004, 08:14 AM Have a 88 318 looking for mods to help with pulling camper. It has 88,000 original mile and needs a little more power. Bought a hurricane horsepower mod and was wondering if this will help. Or should i drop a 360 into her? BleedDodge 05-09-2004, 01:53 PM Putting a 360 in out of the same kind of truck wouldn't do much, it might give you 15 more horses or something but it won't even be noticeable with a camper on I would think. Unless you put in a 360 that has been built so it has some power. A 360 from a truck like yours would have some pretty good torque though, that's about all those 360's are good for stock. slantsixness 05-10-2004, 11:12 AM Don't do the 360, way too much extra things you'd have to do. Put a low end truck camshaft in it. Try putting taller gears in it (like 3.91's) it won't improve your MPG, but it'll pull a whole lot better. Both mods are fairly cheap, but the labor will cost you a bundle if you can't do it yourself (which you can). If you do the cam & lifters (have to do lifters too), this would be a good time to replace your timing chain, too. Use an extra trans cooler, no matter what you do. (if Automatic). Slantsixness (one good old slant six in a 400K mile '86 D100 that'll still pull a camper or boat all day long up hills..! Yes it IS a six cylinder, and it'll do 65 on the highway with a trailer all day long... takes a little to get to 65, but I've got time...!) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
