Can a 350Z take a 04 Mustang GT 5-Spd??dipankar06 05-08-2004, 12:09 AM I got into a argument with my friend who has a 04 Mustang GT, he was confident that he could beat the Z, well nautrally being the Nissan fan that I am, I had to disagree. The Z's got the HP, the weight and of course the wide power band of the VQ, the only advantage that the Mustang has is the torque. So what do you guys think. Zanark 05-08-2004, 01:32 AM man dude this shouldnt even be discussed. Of course the Z would win. a GT is heavier then a Z has worse wait distribution, and plus only has what 270hp? The Z would kick its ass in my opinion. westpak 05-08-2004, 06:40 AM The only thing I wouldn't try to take on woul dbe an 03+ Cobra khfromhb 05-08-2004, 05:29 PM i think we should stop responding to z vs. mustang posts longlivetheZ 05-09-2004, 12:36 AM Stock mustangs aren't shit. If you don't believe me, feel free to refer to the ~13 page thread (referred to in my sig) where I tore some dude apart over this subject. Within that thread, I compared damn near every spec you can think of between the 2 cars...and all of my info I got off Ford's website, jbcars.com, or my misc. Nissan brochures. Stock mustangs are weak. 240/350Z 05-11-2004, 02:38 PM ive beaten quite a few gt's actually never lost to one. I have an 03 base the only thing to look out for is an ss or ws6 RocketStang911 05-11-2004, 09:42 PM A 350 Z will most likely beat the mustang gt.But the mustang gt will give the 350 z a run for it's money. With a good driver a 99-04 gt can run high 13's to low 14's stock.I think it'll make a good race. Now If the stang has gears or other bolt on's it'll be a whole different story. longlivetheZ 05-11-2004, 10:09 PM With a good driver a 99-04 gt can run high 13's to low 14's stock.I think it'll make a good race. And you want gears and other bolt ons, too? You already have 2 more cylinders and 1.2 liters of engine on the 350. It wouldn't be an ass kicking, but the mustang wouldn't be a wise bet. Of course these numbers vary...but I've seen 350Z 0-60s as low as 5.2 sec in magazines and as high as 5.5 sec...still...it's not exactly close between the mustang and 350. A 99-04 mustang gt with a stick does not run a 14.7.The driver must suck. That is what an auto vert gt would run.94-98 gt's run 14.7's not a 99-04.If you don't believe me go over to the mustang fourm and ask.Just about everyone there will say the same high 13's to low 14's for a 99-04 gt manual with a good driver. My friend with a 00 gt automatic ran a 14.4 and thats with an auto.As far as the gears and bolt on's I meant alot of stangs have them.A gear change which alot of mustangs have usually make them .4-.5 seconds faster than stock in the 1/4. Like I said if you don't believe me got ask the guys in the mustang forum. Also check http://www.eurotuned.com/0-60.htm and it said a 99 gt ran a 14.1 in the 1/4 and 0-60 is 5.5 sec.The 99 gt has the same performance as a 04 stang.Notice the 98 and older stangs are the slow ones. rxcutioner7 05-11-2004, 11:37 PM I raced my friends 03 GT 5-speed(which suck ass by the way...over rated) against my 88 RX-7, with 156,000 miles on the motor. All I have is exhaust and I stayed up to he had me by the front bumber the whole way....he never gained after that....so yeah a Z would rip him a new a hole. Mustangs are too bloated, in short they suck. RocketStang911 05-12-2004, 12:10 AM I raced my friends 03 GT 5-speed(which suck ass by the way...over rated) against my 88 RX-7, with 156,000 miles on the motor. Mustangs are too bloated, in short they suck. Unless your car runs low 14's,the guy in the mustang can't drive for sh*t. longlivetheZ 05-13-2004, 10:42 PM Here (http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=7&article_id=21&page_number=4&preview=) is another link with musang facts...and it says 5.8 0-60 for a 2001 Bullit and a 14.3 1/4 mile and (on the next page...) a GT Mustang with a 6.0 0-60 and 14.7 1/4 mile....... Zanark 05-14-2004, 01:38 AM Rocket Stang thats a damn lie, There is no way that ANY mustang GT stock Could EVER run a 13 second Quarter Mile. GT's are SHIT. PURE and UTTER SHIT. they are not good cars. the Z will kill it Kill it Kill it!. RAPE IT BLOODY. RACE a GT RACE IT BEAT IT BEAT IT BEAT IT To a Blood Puking PULP. I HATE fords! D:< longlivetheZ 05-14-2004, 03:56 PM Damn Zanark ......I usually like a nice, calm, civil statement of facts in an argument type of form, but you're nuts...I don't particularly like fords either, especially mustangs, but damn dude.....I let the facts speak for me. RocketStang911 05-14-2004, 04:57 PM Well this site says 14.3 1/4 and thats with a heavy convertible.Take .2 off for weight and you have a 5 speed coupe that will run 14.1 in the 1/4. Heres the link:http://www.bradbarnett.net/mustangs/caroline/specs.htm Heres another:http://web.radiant.net/kms/specs.html Look under ford.It says a 1999 mustang gt coupe ran 14.0 1/4 mile and 5.4 sec 0-60.And a 99 gt convertible with an automatic ran 14.6 1/4 amd a 0-60 at 6.2 sec. The places where your looking at is giving you stats of mustang gt auto convertibles not 5 speed coupes. Here is another one:http://www.modernracer.com/mustanggt.html If you look at the very bottom it will say mustang gt competitors,350Z.They both run the 1/4 mile about the same with the mustang gt at 14.2 sec. and the 350Z at 14.1 sec. This sits says 0-60 in 5.5 sec.http://www.carseverything.com/content/reviews/coupes/article/39.1/ It says it in the middlle of the page. This site says 0-60 in 5.4 sec and a 14.0 sec 1/4. http://www.worldclassmusclecars.com/1999MustangGT.html This place says a 14.4 sec 1/4 but thats with a convertible. With a coupe which is around 200 lb's lighter it should run a 14.2 sec 1/4. http://www.theautochannel.com/vehicles/new/reviews/2000/russ0023a.html This site says 0-60 in 5.5 sec and a 14.0 1/4. http://home.thezone.net/~mus_tang/2000-2.html If you read this page it says a mustang gt runs a 14.0 sec 1/4 and a 0-60 in 5.4 sec.http://www.jhammy49.com/Pages/99stanggt.htm If you still don't believe me that mustang gt's run low 14's stock I can continue posting more sites for you. Most of the sites say a 99-04 gt runs a 14.0 sec 1/4. To conclude everything ,there are good drivers and there are bad drivers. Some people will run better times then others. How would you like it if I said a nissan 350Z ran a 14.9 sec 1/4 even know the driver sucked. That doesn't mean all 350Z's will run a 14.9 sec 1/4 now does it. 99-04 5 speed Mustang gt's are capable of 14.0's and 14.1's but it's all on the driver. The guy can run a 14 flat and another guy next to him can run a 15 flat. longlivetheZ 05-15-2004, 01:53 AM Tis good shit...I know things vary greatly...I've been saying that from the beginning...that's why I like to look at the bigger picture...cornering, comfort, drivability, value, drag coefficient, braking, etc., but that's not what we're talking about here...here we're just talking about 1/4 mile and 0-60. You're right....t'would be a good race. I'd like to see it. masood 05-23-2004, 08:26 PM I raced one.. it's just like the turtle nex to my z :D longlivetheZ 05-23-2004, 11:21 PM Well....there we go.....kinda settles that. Your Z stock? masood 05-25-2004, 01:13 AM yes it's stock and has 19 inch wheels, those making it slower in 1/4 mile alsohttp://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/13887ad2daysood.jpg longlivetheZ 05-25-2004, 01:55 AM Sweet ass. Why'd you get the convertable, though? masood 05-25-2004, 10:11 AM I loved it from the first sight :D.... I was going to buy subaru sti, and in my way i saw the nissan dealer, they told me that the 350z convertable will arrive in 2 days. I said ok!? let me see if i like it. thay said If you wanna reserve one from now that will be better, because they will go fast., well i said no way, i don't buy the fish while it's still in the sea. so I wated 2 days and came back...guess what? the price was $54,000 >> crazy.... i said no way. then i went to subaru dealer and asked them for a white one, they said that they don't have it, and they tried to sell me a blue one with the tag price. i said no way. in about 3-4 days later, nissan dealer called me and told me that they will give me the z convertable $45000 out of the door. and I got it. now you can get it about $38000...... longlivetheZ 05-25-2004, 04:25 PM Damn man. That's a bunch of money. Good for you though. Congrats. I'd rather have the Z than the Wrex anyway. Don't think I'd be too hugh a fan of all wheel drive for how I like driving...it's all about rwd. masood 05-25-2004, 10:15 PM thenks bro, but the insurance is killing me man for this car... i used to pay about 1100 for my mustang, for the z $2600 a year longlivetheZ 05-26-2004, 01:25 PM Arg...little rough. But at least you're not driving a fuckin mustang any more. :cwm27: sleeper00 10-09-2004, 03:33 AM i drive a bone stock 02 gt 5-speed coupe and all i have to say is that i ran a 13.9 traping at 96mph at the track last week.... it was a cooler evening and the track had excelent conditions. Nothing against z's, (i think they are sweet cars) but any race with a z and a gt is a drivers race. .....by the way zanark... i'm BONE STOCK so i guess it is possible. 0.02 cents k3smostwanted 10-09-2004, 04:58 AM this thread is almost 5 months old dude. if you want to talk about it then start a new thread or even better, there is a thread that is new that is already started comparing the mustang to the 350z. no big deal, but just dont pull up dead threads. AvAlAnChE1090 10-09-2004, 04:45 PM :eek7: 2004 mustang gt: 0-60: 6 sec 1/4 mile: 14.7 sec 2004 Nissan 350Z: 0-60: 5.4 Sec 1/4 mile: 14 sec OMG NO YOU DIDN'T!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE mustang 0-60 is 5.4 AND THE 1/4 MILE IS 14.4!!!!!! and the Z 1/4 is a little bit higher! omg im going to SHOOT your for believing that webpage! Z's have like 40 less torque, TORQUE WINS RACES! Big deal it has like what 20 less hp? I rather have 40 more torque than 20 more hp. AvAlAnChE1090 10-09-2004, 05:03 PM Nissan 350Z - V6 3.5L (287 hp) 0-60 is in 5.20 1/4 mile in 14.53 and thats for the 35k 350z. The mustang is 22k k3smostwanted 10-09-2004, 05:16 PM this thread is still old no matter how many times you post in it. AvAlAnChE1090 10-09-2004, 06:56 PM so, im still proving a point here k3smostwanted 10-09-2004, 09:28 PM lol...ok dude. AvAlAnChE1090 10-09-2004, 10:43 PM You gotta get the facts right ya know? So let me summarize! For 33k you get the best 350z model that goes 0-60 in 5.2 seconds, the 1/4 mile is 14.53 seconds For 22k you get a Mustang GT (not the best model) that goes 0-60 in 5.3 seconds, the 1/4 mile in 14.5 or 14.3 seconds. With the extra 11k u have, you can put a turbo in the mustang and itll SMOKE the 350z! k3smostwanted 10-10-2004, 01:25 AM true...but both of those 0-60 and 1/4 mile numbers on both cars can be lower or higher. you must remember the 350z wasnt built to go straight fast. that wasnt what nissan was thinking when they designed the car. it is meant to handle in turns for auto-crossing. that is what nissan has been all about since day 1. Amril 10-10-2004, 09:28 AM and your also trying to state that car manufacturers put all their money into making the car fast rather than add creature comforts. That extra 11k has been spent on seat warmers and the like. AvAlAnChE1090 10-10-2004, 02:26 PM you can add suspension, thats what my bro did. He takes turns at 80 and its fine 04GTmustang 12-08-2005, 04:18 PM I myself own a 2004 GT and stock i ran a 9.2 1/8th which is a 14.3 1/4. The average mustang Gt owner in that 99-04 range runs around a 14.3 now some have actually gotten there cars down to 13.7s with lots and lots of practice. Driver error is huge. Last time i was down at the track there was a 2004 350z he was running 9.9s with exhaust and thats 1/8th mile again his best i think was a 9.7 at 68mph that goes to about a 15.2 1/4 cause you take the 1/8th mile time and multiply it by 1.56. But yes these two cars are very very close stock for stock its drivers race. so dont compare internet numbers because they are mainly all wrong unless you have gone to some driving schools. zacharyras 04-14-2009, 11:56 AM Pretty much a bunch of you need to stop and think for a sec... 1. You have not driven either most likely for more than a day or 2 so you really have not got a feel for either car. 2. A mustang does not take 6 seconds to get to 60 unless you throw a second burnout in there. 3. I got my mustang gt for 6k with just over 110000 miles on it and it runs perfectly and looks great the best price your gunna get for a 350z is like 15k 13 if your lucky, so i have at least 6k more to boost my car. In short the stang is way better than you give credit. Its much cheaper, and with the extra $$ you can drop a saleen supercharger in it and be pushin upwards of 400 ponies. Sure stock maybe a 350z may be able to beat my stang, but you had to spend twice to 3 times what i paid to barely beat me. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
