I have a 90 4 runner. Does anyone know how many, and location of freeze plugs. I've been told one on engine block and one on head. Where at? A picture would be great!

There are 11 freeze plugs in the block and 5 in each cylinder head (4 of one size and 1 smaller size). Where are they? All over the place, apparently.

If you are looking for a coolant leak, it is extremely unlikely that it is a freeze plug unless the engine has been run for a while without antifreeze in the coolant, just water. With 50% antifreeze in the coolant, the freeze plugs never leak.

The most likely spot for a leak is between the head and the block (head gasket) at the front right or rear left (near number 1 or number 6 cylinders) of the engine. Pull these spark plugs and see if either have any antifreeze on them. If not, it is possibly an external leak. Look for antifreeze on the outside of the engine in these areas.
