abs - hope i dont get flammedmaverick27 05-05-2004, 01:21 AM me and my friend where having a discussion whether or not abs was needed in drifting or not. and whther or not it was a nessesity to have. can i have your guys is out put on this? J_Spec_NiTeMaRe 05-05-2004, 01:53 AM When do you use the brakes when you're in a drift? You don't. Your EBrake doesn't use ABS. ABS is just added weight, when you need to slow down for a corner it's not a necessity. Hope you got a firesuit. kingcarm 05-05-2004, 06:07 AM prepare to be flamed!!! SR20DETpower 05-05-2004, 07:18 AM uhh I would hope you use your brakes when you drive in any type of racing, drifting or not LOL non ABS brakes will induce oversteer or understeeer better TheLogikal1 05-05-2004, 10:34 AM abs is for pussies. lol. j/k i personally like not having abs. it makes a brake drift much easier. wingsofwar 05-05-2004, 11:13 AM its drivers prefrence, i personaly dont like to use ABS as it seems much more challenging to me to complete a certain line when cornering. With ABS its much more easier because i can lock the fronts and still turn the wheel to a desired line, unlike non-abs where if you lock the fronts during high speed braking, its impossible to turn the wheel. For non-abs controlled vehicles throttle and braking foot work is important to much of both could be very dangerous. Some people like brake steering, some people dont, some people like understeer over oversteer and vise versa. Its all drivers prefrence musicsurfman 05-05-2004, 11:28 AM I Hate Abs.... I've Had Too Many Bad Experiences. You Can Learn To Manipulate Traction Loss Without Abs To Your Advantage.... I Know Personally I Can Stop Quicker Without Abs Than When Driving A Vehicle Equipped With Abs. HondaHater 05-05-2004, 02:14 PM Wow, You Actually Capitalized Every Letter In Your Post. Why? Just Curious. J SPEC SilEighty 05-05-2004, 02:18 PM Wow, You Actually Capitalized Every Letter In Your Post. Why? Just Curious. haha i remember when i asked him this awhile back. iirc he does data entry at work and it makes him type like that. so when you see him capatalizing the first letter of every word then you know he's at work..... slacking. ;) :p HondaHater 05-05-2004, 02:58 PM hahaha johnnyboy5 05-05-2004, 03:03 PM I've neer driven a car with ABS so I'm used to it. musicsurfman 05-05-2004, 03:43 PM Yup Jspec Your Right..... I Actually Have To Type In All Caps And I Can't Change It. This Forum Converts It To Capatilizing Only The First Letter Of Every Word. publicenemy137 05-05-2004, 04:31 PM Yup Jspec Your Right..... I Actually Have To Type In All Caps And I Can't Change It. This Forum Converts It To Capatilizing Only The First Letter Of Every Word. THAT IS PRETTY COOL I DID NOT KNOW THAT. SO EVERY POST NOW I WILL JUST DO IT IN CAPS! YEA AT MY WORK IT'S DATA ENTRY AND WE HAVE TO DO IT ALL IN CAPS ALSO. SO WHEN I WORK THERE IN SUMMER I'LL BE TYPING THIS STYLE EDIT: hmm it didn't convert it for me musicsurfman 05-05-2004, 04:46 PM Did You Use The Quick Reply Box? aobispo 05-05-2004, 08:52 PM i don't know how you can say you stop quicker without ABS. that's just not true. TheLogikal1 05-05-2004, 09:29 PM aobispo is on the dot. a semi-decent driver that pays attention and is aware of whats in front of him can stop bette than any abs...but the there are the idiots that shave, read magazines, all that garbage that rely on abs cause they dont pay attention when they drive. HondaHater 05-05-2004, 10:38 PM i dont know if i have that shit or not, i dont even give a shit, right now i need a lsd. TheLogikal1 05-05-2004, 11:29 PM if you dont have a factory lsd in your car, you dont have abs...lsd and abs were a packed option HondaHater 05-06-2004, 12:17 AM ah okay, i dont have shit then. i bout to have lsd from an r32. im gettin two of em from a friend back home. one of the lsd will go to one of my friends over here. im tired of this one wheel bullshit. Soyo 05-06-2004, 12:57 AM you can stop much faster with ABS, and you can't leave skidmarks when trying to avoid the guy that swerved into your lane to where they know you were speeding cuz they go 155 ft. but thats just what happened to me :) but yes ABS will make you stop faster, when you don't have it and your tires skid that means you've gone beyond the breaking ability(?) of the car(I'm sure theres a better way to put it, but its late and I'm dumb... bad combination) johnnyboy5 05-06-2004, 01:37 AM from what i know, the ABS sense when the brakes are abotu to lock, so instead of locking, they send electric pulses or something and make the brake pads tap to the brakes. If anyone gots better info, go ahead Turbo Thoughts 05-06-2004, 01:43 AM you can stop much faster with ABS, and you can't leave skidmarks when trying to avoid the guy that swerved into your lane to where they know you were speeding cuz they go 155 ft. but thats just what happened to me :) but yes ABS will make you stop faster, when you don't have it and your tires skid that means you've gone beyond the breaking ability(?) of the car(I'm sure theres a better way to put it, but its late and I'm dumb... bad combination) How about.... When your brakes lock up, you stop stomping on them hard as you can, because brakes don't work under the regular stupid mentality that the harder you step on them the faster you stop. If your brakes are locked up and you ease off a bit to just under that threshold of locking, you'll stop in a much shorter distance than letting them skid for 155 feet. Sorry, I'm ussually very against treating people like this, but that was some pretty stupid driving. musicsurfman 05-06-2004, 09:15 AM Ever Heard Of Pumping Your Brakes? You Don't Lock-up Your Brakes Like A Moron.... You Push Them Hard Then Slightly Let Off And Pulsate Them Till You Are Are The Speed You Want To Be At. All Abs Does Is Release Any Wheel That Is Senses Traction Loss In Which In All My Experiences With Abs Has Been Very Dangerous. I've Had A Ford Truck Release All Four Wheels Literally 3 Ft From A Car In Front Of Me. Talk About Scary Shit When You Have To Release The Brakes And Slam On Them Again To Stop. I've Also Had A S10 That Released The Brakes As I Was Entering A Turn With Stopped Traffic Ahead And It Actually Locked The Front Inside Wheel And Released Everything Else Which Caused Massive Over Steer Around That Wheel And The Truck Started Sliding. SR20DETpower 05-06-2004, 10:42 AM your car will always stop better with ABS from a safety standpoint. Its just more fun if you know how to control you car to get it to skid with just the brakes. ABS lets you get the MAXIMUM use of your brakes without locking them up, it does it in a manner that no driver could reproduce. ABS especially shows off in slippery road conditions. musicsurfman 05-06-2004, 11:21 AM One Thing I Can Say Is That Abs Does Produce Better Results In Wet Weather.... But I Highly Disagree With The Dry Weather Statement. Also Abs Generations Make A Huge Difference, Early Gen Abs Systems Sucked.... The New Systems Are Much Better And Have Much Better Results And A Higher Safety Standard. johnnyboy5 05-06-2004, 01:26 PM I think they call it "poor mans abs" (got it from GT3) johnnyboy5 05-06-2004, 01:27 PM i was refering to the pumping of brakes thing vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
