Where to Find a ferrari 512 Lm 71

I really want to build this model in 1:24, can anyone help me finding this kit on the web ?

Protar used to do a 512 in that scale, but I think it was a Daytona car. Might be a good place to start however...

I never build a Protar kit are they good compared to fujimi or tamiya ?

It's a reproduction, but I don't know who did it originally! It's not a bad kit, the engine is excellent, the body work is OK, but will need some work. The rear tube frame around the engine is very fine and tricky to get right, and the exhaust system is really hard work. Looks good when it's done though, just don't be put off by the art work on the box.

And, of course, if you don't mind curbsides and you don't mind working with resin then you should look into Fisher Model & Pattern's line up.

True... Sorry to hijack this thread but one of my friends drives a 512S in historic events, so I quite fancy doing their model of it for him. Has anyone here built it?

Here's a Fisher Ferrari 512M I built a few years ago. A pretty simple kit, except the windshield is a little tough to fit in properly - half sits on the outside of the body, half inside. This was the first resin kit I built.

I think i'll try the fisher solution but it will be my first resin kit, i hope i'll be able to handle it :uhoh:

Can anyone tell me the main differences between resin and plastic kit ? will i have to use different paints ? different glue etc ...

Great 512M p9o1r1sche, awesome. I've got a Fisher D-Type and it looks to be an excelent (and simple) kit so the Ferrari sounds like a good option, so long as you don't mind resin tyres!

There are 2 choices for a 512M kit in 1/24. Fisher makes a very nice resin curbside ($95 US) and Model Factory Hiro a full detail resin/metal ($175 US). The Protar 512S is a rebox of the Heller kit which dates back to the early 70's, the engine isn't totally correct s it's from their 330P3 kit. Kurz

I found one other option, and it's a duesy. Model Factory Hiro produces several Ferrari 512 variants. These are hyper detailed multi-media kits, and are ludicrously expensive.

Well, resin is polyurethane, which isnt polystyrene, which is what injection molded kits are made of. So, regular polystyrene glue wont work. You have to use epoxy or superglue (cyanoacrylate) on everything. Also, you have to clean all the resin pieces in bleach, or something like that to wash all the mold release off the parts. If you dont, paint wont stick to it. You must prime everything before painting to get the best results. Also, you need to test fit all parts. Resin kits arent usually engineered as well as injection molded kits, so test fitting is necessary. I think I covered the main differences here. There may be more info in the FAQ list. There certainly are differences between resin kits and regular kits, but once you are familiar with them, resin kits can expand the range of available subjects for you. One thing I like about resin is that you can sand or drill the hell out of it and it wont melt like polystrene.

I'll try one, a fisher. When u're talking about washing, it's on simple water, no particular product ?

And when it's washed, Tamiya paints will work yes ?

He may be able to reply in more detail but in his post it says you must wash the parts with bleach.

Use a mix of 2 parts water and 1 part bleach to wash the resin parts in using a brush. Wear protective gloves. Since you are in France, I dont know what other products are available that could be used. Some others here in the forum may know. Here in the US, I use Westley's Bleach White cleaner for car tires.
