Well my roommate really did a number on my car that's for sure. I'm sure if your a regular here you know I've been trying to deal with having my car in and out of the shop (and no it has nothing to do with it's general mechanics or being a poorly built car!) for those of you who didn't catch my last couple posts, my room mate hit the car (by accident) into a curb and it really messed it up pretty bad. No body damage but so far we replaced an axle, wheel hub, rim, tie rods, and a couple other parts under there. Unfortunatly he just told me the frame is bent :o( so it's at a frame specialist today to see if it's worth straightening and what it will cost etc., etc.

I think he thinks the best thing to do is get rid of it. I don't know if I really want to part with it. It's been a great car and i've only had it since december! I've put 11,000 miles on the car so far and it withstands my sometimes abuse :oÞ

I guess if I choose to get rid of it I will be looking at another one. I currently have a 95' would anyone be willing to tell me about their auroras and the features they like and dislike in their year cars

If all goes well I'll keep my little 95 Aurora it's a real trooper but I might as well be prepared for the worst...

how come they did not notice the damage before they dumped all the money into fixing the other stuff?

I don't know, it's my roommate who's been paying, and the car has frequented 2 or 3 different shops now (for different specialties i.e alignment, framework etc etc.) so perhaps they assumed we knew... I don't know...

Its a very affordable car to purchase, look at getting another one...something more then a 95 perhaps. Just make sure its a classic Aurora :P

Oh I'll certainly stick with the 1st gen Aurora it's got a lot of character. I was thinking a 97 perhaps? I don't know?

Well I got the results back on the 95 - it needs to have the sub frame replaced... that would be a 700.oo job.

if you get another one get a 97 or 99 they have the best consumer reports, no recalls

That's what I was looking into... what are some of the key features the 97 and above have that the 95/96s dont ? any features you like, don't like?

96+ had bigger brakes, beyond that they just addressed some mechanical issues.

The mirrors (rearview) got a compass I think, and the seatbealts changed from metal latches to plastic.

Hrm...not much else comes to mind...

The mirror tilt-down in reverse change started in '97. The suspension was heavily revised for '97 and then again in 98 (carryover to '99). There are some other, minor changes. I'd personally shoot for a '98 or '99, then a '97...

hmm... so many choices... I'm so picky too and that's always a problem... I could always keep my 95 and my roommate offered to pay the 700 to replace the subframe... but if i go ahead with that I need to get this idle issue worked out. Hm... so many choices...

I recall hearing that they made the really crappy cup holders a tad deeper 96 and later. The number of cups dumped all over the passenger seat in my 95 makes that a potentially important factor :)

It's funny you mention that! Because I definitely spilt my ice coffee all over my beautiful leather this morning...

So it's definite I'll be retiring this Aurora soon to get another...
