ok guys and gals, I'm back again. This 97 is now acting like a 79. When it is damp outside, it wants to spit & sputter. The mechanic fixed my other problen, it was a sensor but now it wants to die again. Any ideas?

Try checking your plug wires are they original? If so might need to replace them. As they get older they tend to arc more and in damp weather even more so. Good Luck, R

ok guys and gals, the latest and greatest on this thing is that the cam shaft sensor (#3) has gone bad again in less than 2 weeks. Is it really possible that I could have gotten 3 defective sensors or what could possibly be eating the "probes" off of these sensors? :banghead:

sounds like you may have a wiring problem. check the main engine harness, and the plug to the computer.
3 cam sensors is really unusual... I can't even believe that the Idle air control valve or some other sensor isn't the problem....well gee, maybe the cam sensor isn't the problem at all...?

If I were you , I'd be pretty angry with the service shop about now...

I had similar problems with my 97 3.3 with 89,000 miles.

Changed cam and crank sensors and had the computer reset. Changed plugs and plug wires and had a professional fuel injection cleaning done.

I had just recently changed the fuel filter. It runs better than it has in years and no more dying!
