My friend has wanted a 240sx ever since i got one, but never could find one. We found one with only 115k miles with no muffler and the timing chain is screwed up. He is asking 900 for it. He says it can drive at low rpms. My question is, is the car worth it and how much does it cost and how time does it need to fix something like that. We have alot of tools and exprience with cars and my dad used to be a mechanic.

get ready for a lotta time working on the timing chain. the part itself is only maybe 100-200 bux. but it's a lotta labor, meaning the mechanic is gonna charge you like 800 bux for work. muffler you can replace w/ a performance exhaust anyway.

900.....if you're willing to fix the timing chain yourself, i say go for it.

just make sure you dont get screwed over like i did, any running car under a grand, is prolly worth the price they are asking. i payed 750 for mine, leaky exhaust, bad clutch, body damage, no ignition, no locks, rust out the wazoo, i could go on. a car with only a bad timing chain and no muffler, is prolly worth more than a grand, so your gettin a deal. im with saikou-go for it

The timing chain is a pain in the butt job .trust me I know . It's only able to drive a low rpm's because timing is off .but before you begin the job make sure you have a 1/4 rachet with long extensions and a swivel joint you will need this for the oil pan bolts in the rear .there is also a good link to go through step by step on yahoo .com but I hope it's still up there .good luck .oh and make sure you mark every thing like the position of the distributor on the compression stroke in the number 1 cylinder .and notice the position of the oil thrower when taking off the front cover .it does not fit in that slot on the crankshaft (you'll see what I 'm talking about .)It goes back as far as possible .if you need any other info on it .post back

What do u think would be an estimate for cost to repair it by a repair shop.Dealer and non dealer shops.
