How can you tell if a del sol is si or vtech if all badgers are removed?

It is called VTEC , use it!

You can tell if it is a Si or VTEC model by looking at the motor, if it has a DOHC VTEC motor then it is a VTEC model and if it has a SOHC VTEC motor in it then it is a si. Also I have heard that the VTEC model did not come in some colors such as white but can't remember if there are any other colors that it did not come in. There are probably more things as well, try checking the FAQ at the top of this forum.

Check for the stamped engine code on the engine block. If it says b16a2 or 3 then it's the VTEC model, unless a swap has been done. The Si model is a d16 engine. Also check the redline in the dash. The VTEC model redlines around 8200. The Si redlines around 7200. Check the VIN number. VTEC models start with JHM.

tire size is also another giveaway. s - 175's, si - 185's, vtec - 195's

or you could just do it the easy way and look at the valve cover..if it says DOHC then well its a dohc vtec , if it just has VTEC accross it then its an Si, if it has nothing accross it but a silver valve cover then its an s

If you're looking from the exterior, only ways I know to tell if it's a VTEC would be if it had the B16 from the factory in it. The giveaway would be the rear sway bar, wider tires, bigger front rotors, and if it was Isle Green, Cypress Green, Milano Red, or Granada Black. VTEC's didn't come in any other colors in the US.

'96 - '97 Si's were also Cypress Green though, and if a motor swap was done, they could be missing the rear sway bar. Best sure fire way to tell is to lift the hood and get a look at the motor.
