I have a '99 4Runner with brake chatter that I've had forever. The shop where I take it even sold me an aftermarket rotor and THAT has hotspots now.

I have over 50,000 miles on it and would like to solve it once and for all.

TIA

Have you tried Toyota brake pads? I always recommend them instead of aftermarket brands.

The noise is common, it is caused by the 'required brake pad to caliper clearances'. They have made a brake caliper grease that you can use to reduce the noise. You apply the grease to both sides of the pad support plate and of course, be sure not to get it on the friction side of the breaks.
