What are some of your favorite car movies (or movies with good car scenes) and which ones did you hate?
Those who say they loved The Fast and the Furious or 2Fast 2Furious you get the beat down.

Favorites-
1. Bullitt
2. Vanishing Point
3. Gone in 60 seconds (remake love the GT500 can't help it)
4. Gone in 60 seconds (original bad acting, good car chase)
5. Thunder Road (moon shine running gotta love it)
Honorable mention Ronin (great car chase) and Mission Impossible (see Ronin) Against All Odds (Ferrari vs Porsche) Gumball Rally (Ferrari vs Cobra)

Hate-
1. The Fast and the Furious
2. 2 Fast 2 Furious
3. The Fast and the Furious
4. Speedzone (or Cannon Ball Run 3, it just sucked although Leone Spinks was great in it! LOL)
5. Did I mention The Fast and the Furious?
Dishonorable mention- the 1st couple of minutes of Gone in 60 Seconds (remake) the scene with the Porsche vs Civic just wrong, Cannon Ball Run 2, The Fast and the Furious.

Dishonorable mention- the 1st couple of minutes of Gone in 60 Seconds (remake) the scene with the Porsche vs Civic just wrong.

Actually, the Porsche at the beginning of Gone In 60 Seconds raced a Subaru Impreza RS 2.5 not a Civic.

This is my list of moves with some good car chase scenes, and some just plain horrible movies about cars.

Good:

Vanishing Point
Bullit
The Wraith
Ronin
Gone In 60 Seconds (Remake)
Le Mans
The Transporter
Who Am I?
Speed Zone
Smokey & The Bandit
Dual

Bad:

Smokey & The Bandit 2
Smokey & The Bandit 3
Cannonball Run 1
Cannonball Run 2
Biker Boyz

Bad, but I still like them:

The Fast And the Furious
2 Fast 2 Furious

I am pretty sure it was an Impreza. I thought that Cannonball Run 1 & 2 were both just too goofy, much like the movie Rat Race. I also just didn't like the mood of the movie. Speed Zone, IMO, was funny. It had a lot of big names, at the time, and some good driving scenes.

I actually haven't watched too many movies with car racing in it. It's quite hard to find a good one, but I liked Bullitt's race scene, and I have memories of car racing in my mind, but can't pinpoint the movie they were in.

I know the obvious stupid ones were the fast and furious movies, both of them were just downright stupid and horrible. And did someone actually mention redline? I can't believe someone watched that, I think that's the one movie I laugh at everytime I see the boxcover at my local blockbuster. :grinno:

I remember there was a movie called "Back in Business" or something like that, with a race between a Saleen Mustang and a Shelby Cobra. Cool cars, but not a really good movie. Also, Gone in 60 Seconds kind of annoys me, because the movie itself was pretty bad, but everyone boasts it as some kind of godlike movie, and it annoys me, it's VERY overrated. Some of the cars were cool, but the car chases was a bit too unrealistic for me, and the story, script and acting was pretty bad.

There was a scene in a Michael Douglas movie, I believe, like primal instinct, or fatal attraction or something like that, that involved a foxchassis Mustang GT. They crashed the Mustang, but I just liked it because they represented my Mustang in a movie. :)

What's the movie with the primer grey shoebox chevy that's built to the hilt, and has two guys just driving around on a mission?

Vanishing Point is a classic.
The last race (short film) was good.
The BMW films that I have seen have been pretty good.

The Mischief videos are alright the first couple times..

Other than that.. I can't think of anything else worth mentioning.

I think it was called Two Lane Black Top or something like that. It's the same shoebox Chevy used in American Graffiti. I think they spent more money on pot for the cast than anything else when they made it.

From what I heard about 2F2F (I haven't seen it, and don't want to), the only part that I MIGHT like is the part when the Camaro and Charger (GTO? forgot what my friend told me now), was racing the main characters, the main characters and their sprayed Jap cars were getting pwned for the most part, and they had to almost cheat to win. :iceslolan

Yeah, what happened was the two main people driving a Lancer Evo 7 and an Eclipse Spyder were racing two guys for pink slips. The other two guys had a Yenko Camaro and a Challenger RT with a Hemi. The only way they won was by using the nitrous and playing chicken. It was, by far, the best scene in the movie.

I'm sorry, but in that first drag race in the beginning of FnF with Paul Walker and his green eclipse, how freakin long was the road they were racing? It seemed like they were racing for like 2 minutes, and they were accelerating the whole time! I mean, come on, if they were non-stop accelerating for that long, they must have been going like 300mph and was coving miles and miles of road, and not a single bit of traffic in such a long stretch of completely public and well-lit streets? PLEASE!

Not to mention the whole garbage of the Eclipse's floor boards melting away or whatever, the bolts flying off and it breaking off, come on, give me a break, that was freakin retarded. And does a race really give them so much time for him to be playing around with that laptop computer so much??

It was a freakin joke of a movie, people who watched that and liked it should be ashamed of themselves! lol

the director mentioned that he was purely trying to exagerate the speed, so if you pay attention to the time of course thats not real, he was stretching it out to define speed.

btw if you look, the eclipse passed up ja rule twice simply because he took the time form him and paul walker to again show what everyone was doing at the moment in time.......do you understand what i'm trying to say, i can't seem to explain it very well

I totally understand your point I just think that FnF had one of the most recycled plots in Hollywood. If you've seen Point Break, or Dro Zone it's the same thing (There's another one I forgot the name of with Charlie Sheen and DB Sweeny about Porsche stealing). Just replace Paul Walker with 1.Keanu Reeves (Point Break) 2.Wesley Snipes (Drop Zone) 3.DB Sweeney (?) then replace Vin Diesel with 1.Patrick Swayze (Point Break) 2.Gary Busy (Drop Zone) 3.Charlie Sheen (?) then instead of import car tuning make the culture 1.Surfing 2.Skydiving 3.High Roller lifestyle then the crime instead of truck hijacking 1.bank robbing 2.drug smuggling 3.Porsche stealing in each case the undercover cop falls for the main guy in the "lifestyle's" sister while in deep cover etc. etc. etc.

Not to mention import car racing is suppose to be about how affordable it is to race imports. Yet they talk about how much the green eclipse cost! Why spend that much to make it go that fast when you can purchase something that fast and with the extra $$$ make it go even faster!?

Have you considered the possibility that it was a mistake and the director found out about it after the movie was done with editing, so he was coming up with excuses afterward?

Lol, come on man, you think that movie took any good directing, and had any deeper meaning or symbolism? Please, it was just another low-budget action flick, and the producers would admit to that, and because it made money, they decided to make a sequel, and now a third movie...

He's basically saying that the same moment in time was repeated following different characters. A common thing in movies that doesn't take much directorial thought. The movie might have been stupid, but I wouldn't assume the director is some third grader. There's a reason he's in the chair, and we are not.

The remake was shit, everything Michael Caine touched turns to gold, he didn't touch the remake ;)

Either way, its well known that plans are in the air for a 3rd installment of TFATF, if the do it I say

1. Set it in Japan or New Zealand (Two best places to find well-worked Jap cars)
2. Base it around drift and circuit racing
3. NO SPECIAL EFFECTS, only pure stunt driving
4. Get so technical that most riceboys are desperately fumbling through their "Fast Fours Technical handbooks"
5. Make the Feature car a Scooby 22B
6. NO FUCKING DRAG RACING FOR FUCKS SAKE!!!
7. Get rid of that god-awful ugly Devon Aoki
8. Have a car chase better than Ronin.
9. Use some V8 Muscle (I'm thinking HSV's)

There are so many ways that the studio could make a good Import racing movie, they just need to stop talking to faggots.

I know what he meant, but if you look at even just the individual times within the cabins of the racers, that is a whole hell of a lot longer than any street race I think is possible on public streets...

And BTW, are you saying that stupid directors don't actually direct? Give me a break, there are plenty of horrible directors that sit in "the chair." Look at movies that get made like Battlefield Earth, I mean, come on!
