i'd take the sledgehammer. it's $600K cheaper than the mclaren and similar in performance. 0-60 is under 4 seconds and the 1/4 is 10.5 or so.

sledgehammer! just listen to the name SLEDGEHAMMER.

Well, I believe the Sledgehammer does hold the record for fastest street legal car (not bad considering a car from 88' still holds that record). Then again the McLaren is just so sweet. Bah, I can't decide...

McLaren. MCLAREN! Formula One! The most extensively developed, no expense-spared road car ever produced. The ultimate road car with the ultimate engine. There's only one winner here.

So many people have a hard time believing that the fastest street legal car in the world isnt American...

The McLaren is perfect. Its been over 10 years since its been out and still nothing beats it. BMW natural aspiration rules. And the McLaren can handle...

i say mclaren F1, it was designed to be a roadcar, think about how good it would be if they made it even more race bred n faster than it already is, i think it would beat the crap outta everything out there

Well let's see.....

You could have a car from the company that for years has put out very fine F1 cars (Just not as good as Ferrari ones) and before that built amazing Can-Am cars. With it you get handling that is said to be the greatest yet, a 240 mph top speed, a gold plated engine bay (:naughty: ) and Carbon-fibre construction. Combine this with practicality and what more could you want???

The 'Vette doesn't even have half of these benefits

Sure Jimmy, but it's not called 'Sledgehammer'. I mean, how cool is that.....

yeah but i could get 2 of them and still have a couple hundred grand to throw around. you're paying 1 million dollars for the name mostly IMO.

The Mclarens top speed is 240mph? And isn't the Enzo the world's fastest car now?

youngvr4
04-27-2004, 02:23 PM
no, its top speed is around 217mph. i personally would take the mclaren, crazayjay if you didn't notice i was just kidding. anyway i'd take the mclaren purely cause the interior is fine nicer than a c4 vette handles far better than a c4 vette, steering wheel is in the middle lol, looks better and is titled to many around the world as king, hell its a mclaren. who cares about 241 and 252.

Well, when it comes to driving, it's hard for me to pick a Corvette, nott hat I know how it is to drive a McLaren, never had that chance, but all I know is that Chevy designs their sports cars with aerodynamics in mind, and nothing else. Sitting in a Corvette, the visibility is just horrible. The windshield and rear windshield is just so slanted that I can't see squat out of anything.

But back with the comparison, I guess for me, I'd pick a mid-engine configuration over a front engine configuration any day. The only problem is, what a lot of people already have said, that the McLaren is bloody expensive! Not to mention, if anything goes wrong with it more serious than a blown headlamp, you'd have to ship it back to Germany to get repaired, and then it'll cost you an arm and a leg! Basically, you'll have to be rich to buy one, and even richer to keep one.

For me, if you can find a mid-engine supercar that's American, since I live in America, then that will be the best deal since repairs or anything else would be easier. Of course if you're in Germany it'll probably be more convenient to own a McLaren. My pick out of the two would still be the McLaren, simply because it's a fine-tuned supercar. The Corvette is basically a really suped up Corvette, with a cool name. :iceslolan

But if money isn't a concern, and I had to pick just one car, it would be the new Ford GT. Can't go wrong with a mid-engine American supercar that does 0-60 in 3.3 seconds. :)

saleen s7?
yeah.

it's a tough decision here, except that i wouldn't be afraid to drive the sledgehammer daily...

Hm, the Saleen S7 is nice too, but I have always liked the old GT40 so the new Ford GT has a lot of sentimental qualities with me too. :)

But about what you said, yah, the McLaren F1 will probably sit in my garage if I even owned one, lol.

what year of an enzo would you be referring to?

there's only the new enzo, out right now.

What Jay said there are 7 worldwide McLaren fixers

If I remember right they are in England, Germany, the States, New Zealand, Australia and somewhere in Asia.

Of course considering the rarity of the sledgehammer I'd imagine most mechanics'd be noodle-scratching while they try tofix them. Or just marvelling at the mad-tyte cool name

hehe... but Germany.. the guy must have thought the Macca was a German car

It's a bastard car.....

Designed and built by Poms
Mechanical bits from Germany
Badge and heritage from New Zealand (I don't care what everyone else thinks, so don't you dare argue :thefinger)

I think it had more to do with a little orc called Bruce McLaren who had an epic journey to get from middle Earth to some obscure land caled "Brittun" with a gold ring used to make the F1's engine bay :p

Being an NZer he naturally sent the ring fast post and cracked open a few cold ones and said to himslef "This man deserves a DB" :D

To me, this is what we are comparing:
The Sledgehammer, a very fast car in the straightline

The McLaren F1, still the undoubtedly finest most superiorly designed and made road car. Fastest production car in top speed, product of some very innovative design, and coveted by car afficionados everywhere.

I'm pretty sure by now you can tell who I'd vote for. One's fast, but the other's fast and it can corner like a beast.

btw: cool avatar Neutrino

Id take the hammer just cause you could eat up vipers, lambos, ferraris, and anything else you could find and they would never expect it commin from an 80s vette. I LOVE SLEEPERS

try not to bring up old threads.. but since we're at it.. i'll just say the koenigsegg ccr and the lingenfelter corvette 427tt and the hennesy venom 1000tt would beat both the cars compared on this forum
