'77 VW Campmobile Clutch Problems??blimpie 04-26-2004, 02:35 AM Ok, i have a 1977 VW campmobile, with the 1970cc engine. I was driving it a while back, and all of the sudden i could not shift gears, and the clutch would not fully disengage. There was excessive play in the clutch pedal, and i thought it was just out of adjustment. So i got underneith, and the cable is moving as much as it ever did (i can tell by the wear marks on the cable itself). So, i talked to a few other people, they said either the throwout bearing, or the pressure plate went. So today i dropped the engine, and as i look at the pressure plate, and throwout bearing, i can see nothing wrong. I had a few other friends come over that have more experience with engines, and they say the same thing, that every thing looks as it should. There is some excessive play on the input shaft of the tranny, but that is all i can find wrong. To sum it up, my clutch would not fully disengage, but the clutch looks just fine. While I have the engine out, what else can i check that could lead to this problem?? Thanks for the advice in advance, Blimpie boschmann 04-26-2004, 03:38 PM Go under the front of the vehicle & pull the clutch arm off the frame rail. Look at the hook that holds the front of the clutch cable to see if it has bent/broken. Biblebuddy 04-30-2004, 04:21 PM Sometimes the Release arm will strip on the shaft and cause this problem also an improperly adjusted clutch cable can cause non realease vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
