Ignition Switch?iceecellica 04-23-2004, 12:26 PM My car seems to have a mind of its own, starting only when it wants to. It will leave me stranded in places for about 30 minutes before it wants to start. When i turn the key to start it the lights go dim and everything like its about to start but nothing happens. It is not the starter or clutch switch, both of wich have been recently changed and the promblem still excists. Somone told me that it may be the ignition switch or somthing, but im not sure. It is a 91 gt-s w/ premium sound system and leather interior. Pictures at: www.cardomain.com/id/ole_school_celli If any one can help or give any advice, i would appreciate it, thank you. Sypherz28 04-23-2004, 01:21 PM First of all I would do the grounding kit just because, whether it be the problem or not your get results anyways.. Secondly I would have the battery tested and charged, if it's bad get a good strong one and not the cheapest you can find.. About 700 cranking amps is pretty good to have especially with a sound system.. Third go with the ignition switch idea cause they can go bad often times, but I am not an expert on the symptoms of a bad one.. iceecellica 04-23-2004, 05:28 PM I went to the Toyota dealership today and they said to bring it in to put it on the computer or w/e to do a diognostics or w/e for 35, they said the switch is too complicated for me to do it that they would have to... itll be 108 for labor and 85 for the actual switch, maybe itll work... sigh Sypherz28 04-24-2004, 05:17 AM That is way to much money to pay for an ignition switch to be installed.. Your better off trying to fix it with a Chilton manual walking you through it.. iceecellica 04-24-2004, 11:24 AM Is the Chilton manual the thing that came w/ the car? I'm going to do a check on the whole system as one fella advised me to in the Grounding Kit Thread. Sypherz28 04-24-2004, 11:59 AM Chilton is a company that makes automotive manuals to includes nearly everything for a specific vehicle.. Any library or really good book store should know what one is.. iceecellica 04-24-2004, 12:05 PM OH alright, I still think im going to take it to the Toyota Dealership to get it done, cause i dont wanna have to mess with it with everything going on right now, ive been on a short fuse lately and it'd prolly be best for the car. Sypherz28 04-26-2004, 12:08 PM I completely understand what thats like.. And your right it is probably best for the car :p iceecellica 04-29-2004, 11:02 PM Thanks for your help, i dont remember if i thanked you or not.. B. Cool 05-07-2004, 12:43 PM Did you ever figure out the problem? I have an 88 Celica ST, and I have the exact problem. I changed starters twice, and still experience times when the car won't start. I was about to have someone take a look at the ignition because once the car starts, I could pull out the key, and it continues to run - that can't be right. Any ideas anyone can offer would be appreciated. iceecellica 05-07-2004, 01:02 PM Nope havnt gotten them to look at it yet, i can hold the key in the starting postition and after a few seconds the starter will kick in and start right up, havnt tried taking the key out tho... B. Cool 05-07-2004, 01:27 PM Thanks. I'll keep trying to figure it out. iceecellica 05-07-2004, 11:50 PM Let me know if you come up with anything vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
