i know this topic has been done a hundred-thousand times, but....

ok, im ecstatic here, i dont know the specifics, but theyre plannin on making an amateur "raceway" sort of deal, twisties and all.......sort of gt style.........

so, the deal is i need a car........

only reqs:
1. must be "raceable" under 10k on twisty tracks
2. no mazda miata, because i have long legs
3. i wanna retain a little bit of style, coz its still gonna be a streetcar

i probably wont be able to race it, but, its no doubt gonna bring a lil bit of car enthusiast attention here, and i wanna be ready

;)

crx with a b16 swap...
92-95 civic hatch with b16

possibly an 88-91 prelude...
they handle awesome stock...
and are fairly cheap... do some susp mods, some motorstuffs...
if you are interested in one, go to www.ludespeed.com
and see what kinda mods he has... mainly the vtec head swap... for 2500 on top of price of car for mad hp... hmm...

ya, but you don't get the mad hp until you're into sky high rpm's.

you can get an 84-91 BMW 3 series for about 4K. they are fast, light, handle like on rails, and brake like crazy. with 6K for mods, it would be unbelievable!

do you have a pic of the 3 series you can paste?

i can't find any real good pictures right now, but i'll try to get some.
some people don't like the way the E30(look up), but i think it looks good. even if you dont like the way it looks, its performance will more than make up for it.

get a 93 del sol s swap in a b16 that will only cost you like 1500 then just upgrade the intake and other little things (header,exhast,etc....) this car is small but has way more room than a miata. So get your self one with no body damage or rust about 3000 spend 1500 on a new engine/tranny that leaves you with 5500 to spend making this car the best car in your town. IF you do it right it can be in the mid to low 13's and still be reliable as hell. maybe much faster if you sacrifice reliablity example NOS or stripping the car down. So go with the Del sol

so what are you thinking?

NismoDrifts

hmmmm im thinkin im goin with the bimmer so far.......

but! i have two questions

1. i wanted to have some cash for mods, but what would you guys say if i uped the ante to 15k?

2. how do you think a 240sx would rack up to your suggested cars, be honest

hermunn123

with 15K, you could buy an early E36(1992-99). if you got an 325is or any "is" model, that can cost you 9K to 15K. i would still go with an E30(84-91) over the E36 though. with the extra money, you could put some nice Z rated tires or maybe even slicks. that is the single best handling modification you can make on your car. get a stiffer suspension along with the tires. then improve power by whatever means you choose. don't forget brakes...

on the 240sx, i don't know enough about it so i can't say much. it has a little less horsepower than an E30, and i don't think it will handle nearly as well as the BMW would. i would still go for the BMW.

I'd definatley take a 300zx 91'+ turbo. 300hp stock and you an up the boost pressure w/ an intercooler + intake + exhaust = 400hp

you do realize that the course he is going to be racing on is not a drag strip but a road course. straightline line power is not the most important thing in road courses. it is how well you handle, and the BMW would probably do that better than the ZX. you don't just want to spend all of your money on the engine.

on the road go with a bmer it isnt like you cant put a bigger engine in a bmer or do other things to it latter

Yeah, they havent released specs or maps of the track yet, but its road racing, its gonna have a drag strip also, but ill leave that to the big v8s, coz there are sooooooo many decked out muscle cars here......

back to the b20 in a lude w/ a vtec head or turbo, or both...
these motors have more tq than a new si does... and thats just stock b20...

the vtec head on the b20 made 111tq@ 2500 rpm... that is a tonna tq for a little motor... and he was not tuned well when he did it...

the turbo on a b20 is good for 178 to the wheels... and low 14 sec passes...

the other thing you could do is get that del sol and work backwards, putting the b20 block under the b16 head.. same thing, but kinda in reverse... it becomes one helluva tq monster and alot of hp, seeing as how it would be a 2 liter vtec motor...
and, if you get the toda vtec killer cams, you are on vtec lobe all the time, and you can spin the revs to 12k...
or get a vtec controller, and move the vtec crossover to 3k rpm...

so you can make low and mid range with that combo...

something light and rwd... we don't need no stinkin' torque steer...

1st gen mr2? would also be a great autox car... or for 15k, you could get a 2nd gen mr2 turbo and, with some suspension (adjustable struts, springs, sway bars, strut tower braces) and power upgrades (boost control, breather mods), be flying around the track in no time.

how is the legroom in a first gen rx-7? that's another good small car you can toss around.

NismoDrifts

I was thinking 2nd gen rx7.....coz i heard something like it shared the engine with the 3rd gen......i dunno, they just look better too, and arent as old.

2nd gen mr2s are dead sexy, i want one

Nismo Drifts where are you from? Wanted to know where this track is being built?

Also as far as a car I think I have the perfect thing but it involves 2 things which are iffy:
1.Are you realllll good with tools, have a garage and a real good supply of tools?
2. Do you need this car year round?

NismoDrifts

its sposed to be built in Va....... probably wont, i live reaaaal close to there though, so if they do i wanna get into it, and if not i could go up to richmond.

yeah, i have tools at my place and my grandpa has everything id ever need pretty much, his garage is pretty crazy. Hes an import guy though.... but he could help regardless.

and yeah, i need it year round unless i can get it super cheap

I would think you could go with a Civic hatchback, a CX for the weight savings. Then drop in a B18C5 if you can find one and of course tune the suspension as much as you can. If you want to go with a RWD car then I would look for an RX-7.

91 Sentra SE: 500$

That leaves you 9,500 for tuning :D
