anyone here have 87-88 lesabres with 200k+ miles and still running strong? if so has it had any major problems? I love that body style, and i know the 3.8 if halfway taken care of, on average can go between 200-300k with few problems, and just love to hear folks stories of high milieage cars

Got 274K on my '90, and just sold my '89 with 175K on it. My '90 has a problem now I can't figure out--dies going down the road...no warning. After it cools off a couple hours, it will go again.

could it be the catyletic (sp) converter?

i was just looking at reliability ratings, how can honda (pieces of crap) get higher ratings than buicks, who is doing these surveys. Hondas with 200k or more on a factory engine and trans are few and far between, where that mileage is common to a late 80's buick????

i just dont get it

I bought my 94 Lesabre in Feb/95 with 27,000 on it, It now has 209,000 with very little problems till this year, (Stumbles when coasting)the only things I have changed are Battery 1 Alternator 2 (one was defective)and water pump, serpintine belt tensioner pulley(it was'nt bad but was looking for the noise that turned out to be the water pump)and the plastic fitting on the water pump to manifold bypass hose. its by far the best car I ever owned.

My father-in-law had a '89 Limited. He averaged about 40,000 km a year. He gave it to me 3 years ago with 453,000 km! We put another 25,000 km before scrapping it. It was too costly to repair the rust. Other than regular oil changes and tune ups, the engine was never overhauled. These engines will go if you look after them!

My friend has an '88 LeSabre and the motor and everything runs great, smooth burning no oil. But recently his car died while he was driving down the road, and now it won't start back up. We are still in the process of fixing it, tried a new computer, ignition module, coils, spark plug wires..it's a mess. Other than that the car is great.

I had an 87 lesabre, junked it at 172k+... but had 2 motor changes & 3 trans changes... so it wasn't too reliable.

Ive got an 87 with 150K, It blew a timing chain at 93K and that required new valves.

sounds like matt is a little rough on them, if he went thru 3 engines, then its not the car thats the problem :disappoin

The LeSabre is a great car, it will probably last forever if you take care of it. But not as long as a Chevy of course ;) One thing that seems to be a common problem is the crankshaft sensor. It just went out on my friends '88 and it was a nightmare trying to figure out what it was.

I've got 187,000 miles on my 1989 Lesabre. Great car! Just got a 1995 pontiac Bonneville with all the toys for the wife and I feel that the 89 Lesabre is much better built.
