Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows why my sunroof only slants open but does not fully open by receding in? It almost feels like its hitting or jamming up against something and causing it not to open.

Also, my fan only blows cold air...no heat though. Any thoughts on whats wrong?

Thanks in advance for your replies. Thanks.

John

I read that as it tries to slide open but jams partway. I'd suspect a cable problem. As for the no heat, I assume the heater hoses weren't bypassed as heater cores are common to fail. There is a cable that goes from the temp selector to a flap at the bottom of the air box. It's a pain to get to. Also, a very common problem was the foam padding on the temp door would fall off, but this usually results in mild heat all the time.

you were right, the heater core was bypassed...explains the no heat. Is it common for B3 Passat heater cores to go...I heard they practically last forever.

On most cars that's true, on VW's quite the reverse. All watercooled from '85 up have had problems... I've even seen it on A4's. My A2 with 200K+ is on it's fifth (each one was new too).
