Who makes a Ferrari 250 GTO (1962) kit?

Is it available anywhere? A 1960 - 62 would do.

While I'm at it does any company make 1950- 55 F1 kits?

I just bought 1950 Alfa Romeo from Czech company Smer, simple kit but very cheap (in Czech of course) of rare formula, if you want real expencive ones then try Model factory hiro or Tameo.

As far as I know, the '62 GTO was available in 1/24 plastic from Aurora (later reissued as Monogram); from Protar; from Italeri; and from Gunze Sangyo (also reissued as Airfix). All are OOP, although you can find them on EBay or some webstores (I got an Airfix GTO from www.racingminiatures.com).
In resin, you have currently available from MG Models several versions.
You also have the Bburago metal version.

For F1 kits, I´m with sjelic: I´ve got a Talbot T55 from Smer (I think they are old molds from... some french company I can´t recall), a Mercedes W196 from Protar. You also have the Revival kits and, for the rest, try the resin makers.

I remembered! The Smer kits are old Merit tools. Not that it does matter but, anyway...

racingminiatures has a Talbot-Lago made by SMER, I'm going to get it this week. Should I prepare myself for limited detail?

Yes.

But all the car is there - I mean, engine and all. And the proportions look right (at least to my eye!). But you have to prepare yourself with lots of patience and reference photos (I got a few, not many).

The wheels are awfull (clear plastic discs for making the spokes - but the racing miniatures site says it includes aftermarket wire wheels), the front grille is molded in the nose, the engraving on the dash is almost non-visible, ...

Anyway, it is my strong opinion that it deserves attention, not the least because it models a beautiful and historicaly significant car.

BTW, two curiosities: there was also an Heller kit of this car (diferent tooling, more detailed). And, my Smer box has a diferent look from the one in the picture.

Couldn't agree more.

Strange about the box art. I'll post some photos of the parts prior to building as an FYI for other people who may want to consider building one of these kits. I'd really like to find an affordable kit of a Maserati or 55' Mercedes as driven by Fangio.

The 55 Fangio´s Mercedes W196 also is for sale on the Racing Miniatures site. For USD 30 I think it is worth it.

That looked like a great project, you should revive it.
