I have a 90 accord ex non vtec and i was thinking of swapping that motor out and dropping in an f22 vtec from a 97 cl. I could probably get this motor for $300 w/ 87k miles on it locally. My motor currently has 111k miles. You think it is worth it? i was also trying to find a f23 vtec 150hp motor and swapping it in but not luck yet finding it locally. Dont say anything about h22s b/c it costs too much for me and these motors i listed are fine with me. lemme hear ur guys feedback on this. thanx

Well, I have a good idea for you. A buddy of mine put new internals in his 91 accord stock f22 and upped compression and it will do the same as putting the f22 vtec in, less the vtec of course. Plus, you can turbo the f22 easily with these mods and easy to do too!

how much did he up his compression by and what kind of pistons did he use? Any idea how much hp he is putting out now???

Dude, i have an F22 non vtec. They are very good for turbo b/c they already have a high compression so you get more bang for your buck. I'm doing an H22 swap and its expensive. but you can get good hp out of an f22, just rebuild it and put a head kit on it then turbo it. can be very nice. good luck

doesnt stock f22s have like an 8.8:1 compression?

they have very low compression, which is good for boost. Nitrous = high compression, and N/A = high compression for power. Typically you want lower compression ratios for turbo motors.

One idea is that an f22b1 head can be swapped onto a f22a1/4/6 with few modifications. However, it might be wiser to simply just swap motors. However, in your case, with the f22a4 motor, simply get a f22a6 (92-93 EX) intake manifold & ecu, and you'll be putting out just 5hp less (crank) than the f22b1...

Yeah, my bud upped compression with internals b/c he didn't have plans for turbo. If you were to do any forced induction, like above mentioned, you would need lower compression. Strengthened materials is almost a necessity because of the pressure put on the original components, that probably have way high mileage on them anyways.

Hmm thats a good idea. But i kinda wanted vtec. I kno it probably doesnt kick in as hard at a GSR or CTR or ITR motor but it would like it to kick just a lil bit. Plus vtec to me is a genious invention since it brings more air into the chamber due to higher valve lift and also increase mileage as well as reduce emissions. I would love to sport that.

SOHC vtec is mostly for fuel economy.....DOHC is more for performance, therefore, you can forget the "VTEC" on the f22b1, according to the 5th gen guys, and me (who has driven several EX model 5th gens)......the "VTEC" is almost completely unnoticable in that car.
