Hello everyone,
I just bought a '99 Camry LXE w/ 52k miles. The owner said that the engine had just been rebuilt due to a Toyota recall withing the last 100 or so miles. Very, very nice car. As I was driving it home I engaged the cruise control and tried to set the speed, but all that happened was the cruise control light blinks. No CC. My first guess is that the mech who did the engine repair forgot to reconnect something. Can anyone give me a quick rundown on what I should look for before I shlep all the way over to the dealer.
Thanks
Dennis

Look for a unattached or loose connector on the C/C actuator. The actuator is at the other end of the cable connected to the throttle body.

Brian- My 93 Camry LE C/C does the same thing as DFRANG's camry...just blinks. Sometimes it works but most other times its blinking. Anyway where would I find the throttle body on mine?
I have the Haynes Repair Manual for it but could only locate the throttle position sensor (TPS). Any help is appreciated.

Just look for the Cruise actuator next to the battery behind the radiator. There is a connector by the front of this actuator that is commonly forgotten. The actuator is actually concealed beneath a cover.

Have someone step on the gas while you are looking at the engine. The throttle body is the semi circular mechanism attached to a set of cables that should move. Follow those cables from whence they come and you will find the CC actuator. At the bottom of that actuator is a plug, which on my car was danggling, but on yours may just be loose.

Thank you both for the detailed info. I easily located the actuator (so that's what that box is) and remedied the problem.

It's not the first time a mechanic forgot to replace that connector. :)

True, but I still give you kudos (as a fellow Camry owner) for pointing out such an oversight.
