96 1500 4x4 w/350/tow package. The tow rating is 6k, but was just wondering what kind of loads you guys feel comfortable towing. Pulling my 22' Prowler (light weight) seems like a chore for the girl. Never had a problem with the Aerostar though. Time to move up to a bigger trailer and would be too much for the van, so bought the Sub. Thoughts/experiances/opinions???

never tow more than factory recommendations, whatever that may be. also double check and make sure your tow pkg. includes a transmission cooler. check the load rating on the tires (especially if you bought it used), which should be to max. psi when towing. I personally would recommend adding a shift improvement kit to take a little wear off the transmission, inspect the cooling system frequently and conduct the factory service recommendations at the speified intervals, and you can tow what the factory says you can. I think the biggest problem as our rigs get older is that we tend to let the servicing go longer then we should. I own a 99 2500 and service it like clock work. I added a trans. temp gauge to compliment the factory trans. cooler as well as a shift improvement kit and reworked the stock vortec exhaust system to allow it to breath a little better while pulling around my boat.. and it pulls like a champ !!

I tow appr. 5500lbs very easily with a 97 ( Vortec) 1500 Suburban 2wd. It does very well and will not overheat, even when towing uphill on desert grades. Faactory tow package and at least 3:73 gears is a must. 4:11's are better. If you have taller gears, like 3:20something, forget it. You'll be struggling with towing jet skis.
