Speakersnick2004 04-18-2004, 04:08 PM I had jensen 6X9's in my old car and they sounded pretty good. So I bought boxes and just put em in today. I even took the radio from my old cutlass so it should be giving the right power, I think. Anyway they sound horrible. They dont put out 1/5th of the bass they did in the cutlass. Anyone have any idea why. Or had a problem with their speakers. I don't have the wires crossed. I am just confused. Thanks Nick Celica Kid 04-19-2004, 10:31 PM what kind of car do you have now Sypherz28 04-20-2004, 01:28 PM There are so many variables when it comes to speakers.. Type of box being used (w/ or w/out a port, and wood type) The type of radio being used to power them The gauge of the speaker wire being used The number of speakers hooked up to the radio Location of the speakers The over all size of the interior of the vehicleWhat specifically have you changed from one car to the next? nick2004 04-20-2004, 03:44 PM 1991 celica gt, I transfered just my cd player and the 6X9's to the celica and it does not sound good at all. Its not like a little difference somethign is definatley wrong besides just liek the boxes I got. I had the problem when I tried them with the stock radio. So idk whats up. I appriciate anyones help. Thanks again -nick- iceecellica 04-23-2004, 01:04 PM I got 2 Q-Power 12's and a Boss 1200 watt amp, it sounds really good, i would suggest upgrading from 6x9's since you can get so much more out of sub's, wich are meant for the bass... Celica Kid 04-23-2004, 01:30 PM hey iceecelica what kind of set up do you have in the back of your hatch? with the spare tire bump and all what keeps your subs from sliding around? nick2004 04-23-2004, 03:06 PM Of course subs are going to hit a lot harder but that don't help me at all. A porsche drives nicer but I cant afford one of those either. The point is im on a limited budget and my 6X9's hit good for 6X9's. Since i have them I want them to work how they should. I don't want to put up another 400$ for a sound system. I want to get a lot of other stuff. I just want to get what I have to work right. iceecellica 04-23-2004, 05:22 PM I made and carpeted my own box to fit right up next to the back seat and it angles inward where the tire goes out, i have the 12's mounted at an angle and upside down w/ my amp mounted in the middle of the box... and by the way, i got both speakers and amp used and only spent 130 on both so dont give me any of that dont wanna spend too much crud.. lol Celica Kid 04-23-2004, 10:18 PM that sounds nice i always had a prob. with my subs sliding around..i tried bolting them down but the metal wasnt very thick and the screws kept popping out...of course this was not a problem after they were stolen.. i had the amp screwed on the back of the box too... =0( iceecellica 04-23-2004, 10:23 PM Aw hell, shit on that shit, you ever find out who stole em??!?!.. shoulda kilt they ass! lol.. sorry to hear that nick2004 04-24-2004, 01:48 PM 130 thats pretty good. The problem is I don't really know shit about sound. I don't want to buy a system then find out the same problem. Idk maybe my car is wired wrong or something. I just bought eh 6X9 boxes I don't want them to go to waste. I don't really need a system just yet. Next thing I want to do is get a sunroof put in and replaint/redo the seats of the interior. Make it all black and red im not sure if im going ot redo the carpet. The cars currently like that grey one. Im going to get it painted red and get a body kit hopefully next summer. I need some cash for college. I didn't mean to sound like a dick. I am on a really limited budget I have like 1000$ in bills comming up shortly so im on a strict budget. Id hate to just scrap my 6X9's. I just want them to work right. I heard I need an amp wiring is messed up maybe a differnt gauge. Like I said I don't know much about audio. I was under the impression if i have the same head unit that the same power should go to the speakers scrapping the idea that I need a amp. Does wire gauge really make that big of differnce. I appriciate the help thanks iceecellica 04-24-2004, 04:08 PM Yes wire gauge somtimes make a difference, I really am not too sure about 6x9's and such because my celica came w/ the 10 speaker premium sound package and i just use the 4 tweeters for my highs and my sub's for the bass, i took all the mid's out, i dont like the mids sound that comes from the 6x9's and 4's... you have your 6x9's in a box?... ive never heard of that.... normally when i see ppl w/ bump from 6x9's they normally just have them sitting up behind their backseats, but since i have a hatch you cant do that... where are your 6x9's located? are they anywhere in the general area of where you had them in the other car?... just go down a checklist of what youve done different and see what might be wrong... try it out a few diffent ways, with the speakers in different places.. nick2004 04-24-2004, 06:45 PM I have em in the trunk now i jsut moved em so they were outta ppls way but its not the location now they sound really bad. But there definatley messed up. Its not likea little problem there is a huge difference in the bass and sound output. Its not something like location or the quality of the box or anyhting like that. I know its kinda odd to have em in a box but i saw boxes at wallmart so I figured why not. I cant replace the speakers that were in there I believe they were about 5" . In the old car cutlass ciera they gave me enough bass to satisfy me. So I figured ill save getting a system. Now im stuck with the damn boxes and the speakers. Thats why i really would like them to work right. iceecellica 04-24-2004, 07:45 PM That may be your problem right there... anything from walmart... could be a serious issue... try them w/o the boxes and see if they will work... iceecellica 04-24-2004, 08:04 PM you might also wanna check and see if the speakers are actually meant for boxes.. and what kind of box, because there are like 4-5 different kinds of boxes nick2004 04-25-2004, 10:08 PM You don't understnad its not liek a small problem. ITs not liek there not quite as loud, its not the box its not the position in the car. The put out almost no bass at all. nick2004 04-25-2004, 10:10 PM U dont understand its not like a small difference. If it were Id just say forget it. They are putting out just about no bass. In the ciera they were set in by cradels. They just sound aful. Its not the positioning of them nor the box. Definatley not the polarity switched. iceecellica 04-25-2004, 11:28 PM Well i guess idont know what else to tell you if you wont at least trying to take them out of the cheap ass walmart boxes. Sypherz28 04-26-2004, 12:28 PM Okay I have been away from my computer for about a week so I wasn't able to keep up with this thread, now I am back on track.. Yes the wire gauge can make a difference, sometimes a huge difference but not likely with 6x9's unless they have a high wattage rating.. Also when you put speakers in a sealed box (no ports/holes in the box) it causes the cone of the speaker to move much less than if it were just sitting in the open due to the lack of air flow.. Thus altering the way the speaker sounds, such as reduced bass at certain volumes or static.. Now if you take that same box and put a 1-2 inch hole in it (say on the side or the back, side reccomended) then the cone of the speaker will move more and they become a little louder, sometimes a lot louder.. Now last I checked the Wal-Mart speaker boxes are made of OSB (Oriented Stand Board) materials, which is a pretty cheap wood but for 6x9's I feel it too be suficient.. You may want to try porting your speaker boxes, but by doing so your be stuck with it that way until you get new boxes if you dont like the way they sound.. You could even port just one of them and set the two boxes next to one another and see which sounds better, that way your only out of one box if you don't like the ported sound.. It's all a matter of taste.. Definately though the boxes are going to make your speakers sound different, I promise you that.. iceecellica 04-26-2004, 01:00 PM Told you....:) nick2004 04-27-2004, 12:40 AM I have tried them outta the box. In fact I got the boxes after wards I figured maybe someone could just fix the wiring afterwards if anyhting it made them sound a bit better. Not by much I talked to a guy at best by today. He told me that I probably need an amp different cars distrubute power differently. They would charge liek 15$ to check it out. I may just do that. Like I said im 99.9% sure it is not a box or wires being crossed. My thought is that wiring somewhere is bad. Causing a lack of power. I need to test it soon. I have tried them in and out of the boxes though. I didnt have the boxes the first 2 times i tried them (with and without the new headunit). Im stumped im going to make sure my head unit is in right in the next few days. Im starting to do my interior in red and black so I don't know exactly when im going to do it. Im going to havea friend that has an idea what hes doing at least so I hear take a look at it. If I ever find out whats wrong I post the reply. If anyone cares. I don't really want to buy a amp becuse the best buy guy said it might be the problem. iceecellica 04-27-2004, 12:57 PM aw hell... nick2004 04-27-2004, 04:19 PM haha yep, I do appriciate the effort to help though. Is car domain free? I think im going to get a site on there soon enough. I don't want to get one while everyhting is stock. I just bought more stuff for my interior today. Hopefully it will be done in about a month. Probably won't take that long but shit comes up and ya. nick2004 04-27-2004, 04:26 PM I just looked at your site I plan to get that body kit myself and get it fitted since mines nota hatchback. Painted and that are the plans for next summer. I want to get the audio fixed lol. Best buy said they would check it out for 15$. But im going ot get the interior done. I hope I don't have to redo the carpet and headliner. Im not sure about the light grey. Probably will. Maybe get wheels and a sunroof put in thie summer. I don't know what the guy in your guestbook is talking about. I raced a sxt neon or something 2002 idk if thats the right model. Not the fast one. Anyway he got me off the line by likea foot then after that I got him. Im not looking to race though maybe just a muffler. Im going all show. Racing causes problems and wrecks and it be worth it if i had money just incase haha anwauy cya iceecellica 04-28-2004, 12:56 PM Cool... Cardomain is free... you might just wanna go ahead and start a sight anyway, just to show everyone your progress.. nick2004 04-28-2004, 09:07 PM I just made an account. How do you change your password? Anyway maybe someone can help me with my speakers lol. I don't have any picutres up of my car yet. Not like it really matters since nothing is really done. Im going to try to get them on in a few days. thanks http://www.cardomain.com/id/nicholas2004 iceecellica 04-28-2004, 09:58 PM ahh... nice... 00 Blk Celica GT-S 04-28-2004, 10:49 PM dude dont worry bout wat other people say just do what you think looks good iceecellica 04-29-2004, 10:49 PM dude dont worry bout wat other people say just do what you think looks good LOL what are you talkin about? You always make comments that dont even pertain to anything any one is talking about... nick2004 04-30-2004, 04:06 PM eh just talking about my sight i bought paint today for the interior just plastics though. Im trying to find a site that tells me how to pop evertything off i figure its probably just that simple but i dont want to break anythign 00 Blk Celica GT-S 05-01-2004, 01:47 AM iceecelica just stfu, u dont know what the hell im talkin bout, i was responding to a comment in nick2004's car domain page iceecellica 05-02-2004, 10:05 PM ok, you are wack... 00 Blk Celica GT-S 05-02-2004, 10:42 PM im wack, man shut up, you dont know me. damn you a dumbass Sypherz28 05-03-2004, 03:58 AM Now now children, behave, keep to the topic at hand iceecellica 05-03-2004, 10:18 AM yes you are wack, half the time your posts dont even make sence... 00 Blk Celica GT-S 05-03-2004, 03:32 PM learn to spell dumbass. and you neva know wtf your talking bout 00 Blk Celica GT-S 05-03-2004, 04:21 PM nick, you should find screws under the dash/behind the panels under the steering column, that'll get the panels off then everything should pop out afterwards. 00 Blk Celica GT-S 05-03-2004, 04:24 PM but ya why didnt you just put the 6x9's in like some panels, not boxes, those boxes could be holding some sound, but ya get me some pics of your wiring set up and everything for your unit &speakers. i had the same problem when i put 2 6x9 sony xploid speakers in my 89 f-150 with a sony detachable face radio and some x-ploid 4x4 speakers. 00 Blk Celica GT-S 05-03-2004, 04:25 PM but when i put the 6x9's in i put them in the door panel towards the back and i couldnt hear them well partially because the seat, but i found one of the wires was cut because of where i ran the wires around. tahts something to check. nick2004 05-03-2004, 09:26 PM You guys make me laugh. I just painted the plastic around the cd player and teh auto shifter. Dont actually look that bad. I took the screws out of the dash i believe there was 4. It didnt seem like it was comming out. Didnt want to force it. I just got my racing pedals today. They match the paint pretty well. Missing parts though. The accelerator is held to the pedal with duct tape. Yes thats right. Im going to try and find someone with the old school erector set. The parts should be similar to the parts I need. You cant really tell but its obviously not going to be a permanent solution. My uncle is getting me free 16" rims. Thats pretty cool. Im about to say to hell with the 6X9's and sell them. Then maybe get better 5 and a halfs. Id like to have bass but im not sure if i want to take up all the space in my trunk. System is iffy. I don't got money for it right now anyway. Im going to fix the corner light sometime this week. nick2004 05-03-2004, 09:26 PM sign my guestbook! Sypherz28 05-04-2004, 03:20 AM If you want bass but dont want to take up too much room look into the Eclipse Titanium Subs.. The 12" is just as loud as two rockford fosgate 15's, the pro titanium 15 can handle 5000 Watts peak and 3000 RMS.. One speaker with the sound of many.. iceecellica 05-04-2004, 10:35 AM Shit, ima look up those nick2004 05-04-2004, 03:36 PM My understanding those subs are pretty expencive.
