low coolant sensorwinters 04-18-2004, 11:31 AM HI All 2000 Taurus 3.0 l Duratec, low coolant light comming on, lots of antifreeze in tank. I guess its the sensor, can anyone tell me where its located ? I checked the tank and its not there. There are a couple of sensors on the housing where the rad hose goes into the engine (drivers side ) could this be one of them? Thanks harvey43 05-09-2004, 11:51 PM I was told that the reservoir contains a magnetic donut that floats in the coolant. The donut simply opens a switch in the sensor when it is at the proper level. I read in other forums that you may need to siphon out some of the coolant, even if it within the cool level. Try that first then try removing the sensor. I have a 2001 Taurus (Duratec Engine). The sensor is under the coolant reservoir. You will need to disconnect the two small hoses. Unscrew one nut and one bolt. Then you need to disconnect the large hose by getting under the car and disconnecting there since it is impossible to disconnect it at the reservoir. The sensor looks like a probe. Be careful when you try to remove the sensor, it needs to come straight out or you will break it like I did. That is how I know there is a simple switch in the sensor. I feel I can reuse it because I did not see anything wrong with it. But, when I tried adjusting the coolant level, it did not help either. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
