Are there any aftermarket performance products for the 80's style Caprices? i.e Cat-backs, headers and such? Also, what style of fuel injection did the late 80's Caprices have? TPI?

Late '80s cars had a 2-barrel throttle body injection (TBI) system.

best performance product you could get for those cars is a good running 350 :p

but, I asked that question about headers and all, so look down the forum list for that thread. Also, I am quite serious about the crate motor thing. Pretty much all of the "box" Caprices were dogs, but I am going to a crate 350 and TPI induction, which should help the thing move a little :iceslolan

oh, and the only FI system ever offered for box Caprices was TBI (throttle body injection), which is actually a pretty good system. In the bubble bodys, the LT1 came in the cop versions.

Well I'm puttin' an LT1 and a T56 into my '88 Trans Am, so I'll have my 'built' 700R4 and the old 305 TBI just sittin' around. How would a Mini-Rammed 383 move an '82 caprice with a 'built' 700R4 w/shift kit and 'Vette servo?

well, I guess that would be alright :naughty:

but, would the Mini-Ram fit under the hood? Shoot, I don't even know for sure if my TPI system will fit.
Also, after reviewing some of those past threads, one guy had a set of Hedmens that would fit a '88 9C1 Caprice, so those should work. Some people suggested that F-body headers would work, but the Caprice's frame just gets in the way a lot.

My only delima is that I want to get some decent performance from a nice mandrel bent exhaust, but I don't want it to be very loud at all. I was looking at the Walker system, which is a very nice single exhaust system that isn't all that loud.

The Mini-Ram's about as tall as the LT1 intake. The TPI's taller than that. Are you gonna get a ported base, runners, and plenum? The TPI seems to fall on it's face in the upper RPM's.

I'm building the TPI to only go to about my engine's redline, 5k. The stock TPI falls somewhere around 4600 IIRC. However, I much prefer the TPI setup for my relatively low-turning motor because the TPI will pull much more torque than any of the short-runner design, like the mini-rams and LT1s.

I am going to buy a set of SLP runners and port them, then port the plenum and base. That should be good enough to boost the powerband up a little.
