That seems a heck of a lot of paint. To much and you will start to loose the detail of the car.

I only do 3 very light coats....just enough to cover the body

I spend 2 spray cans for one model! Am I crazy?
That's becouse I've bought Pat Covert's "Guide to scale automotive finishes" and learned practice to start and stop spraying off the model.
This approach lead me to waste away too much paint for cardboards and floor :D

I have recently started using about 1 and 1/2 of the small cans of spray paint.

What colour is the car?

Avoid Lacquer if you can, otherwise three coats should be fine.
Warm the can in hot water!

:flash: but lacquer goes on easier, dries faster and harder and easier to sand~~depending on what kind of paint is under the clear coat

If you lacquer over a solid colour you get a very harsh, plasticy shine which is often a bad thing! Looks like a toy!

Polishing the solid colour gives a nice, soft shine that is very realistic.

I lacquer a car if it is a basecoat metallic which needs the shine, or a solid colour race car that needs the decals protecting, not because I am scared I might rub through to the primer.
That is a weak way of avoiding learning a skill! You are here to learn, not find the easy way out!!!

There, Sensei speech over!!!!:p
