99 buick regalth0razine 04-15-2004, 12:34 PM Hi all im new here but it looks like a great place to get some info from some good people. My problem is as follows... wife's car... 99 regal... front left headlight, marker, and turnsignal acting strange... inside car, turn signal blinks very fast when turning left and normal when turning right. I thought that since the lights were acting up that i might just have to replace a bulb or two but this sounds like it could be a nasty electrical problem. Does anyone know offhand what could cause this? Is this normal behavior for the car to let you know you have a bulb out and to check and replace it? or should I take it to the dealer and have them fix it? If you need more info, let me know... im new to this Thanks in advance. tman 04-15-2004, 07:57 PM open up your fuse box on the passenger side dash. Look at your silver flasher fuse thingy(I wouldnt call it a fuse, although it may me) and get the number. cruise on over to the local auto zone/pep boys/advance, and match up the numbers, get you a new one, and see if that works. Skavoovie 04-25-2004, 04:14 PM The hyperflash is normally used as "bulb out" indicator. Check to make sure all the bulbs in the left headlight assembly are good. nuclearjack 04-25-2004, 05:28 PM The hyperflash is normally used as "bulb out" indicator. If your bulbs are all good, this can also be caused by the turn signal switch not making full contact. My 1998 does the same thing if I push the turn signal lever only partway. A partially engaged switch will energize the circuit in a way that wasn't intended in the deisgn. This can result in a faster than usual blink rate. You may have to adjust the turn signal mechanism (or the switch) to fully engage the switch. See if your right turn signal also does this by trying various positions just short of the blinker "clicking" into position. On older models, an increased lamp load could increase the blinker rate. Having a higher wattage rated bulb or a short in the wiring could increase the load. But, it appears that on current vehicles the flash rate is controlled by a timer, independent of the bulb load. You could inspect the turn signal switch and see if it can be adjusted. (Careful if working in the vacinity of the airbag). Mr_D. jeepguy1 05-05-2004, 07:47 PM just a suggestion if you decide to open up the column to check the switch disconnect the battery so theres no air bag worries. caddymac 05-15-2004, 10:23 AM Wow, so much bad information in this thread it is hurting me. First off I would check the plug going to the headlight module, as it would affect all the front lamps. Secondly, the front turn signal sockets have been known to go bad, so pull them out and look for any melted plastic. Turn you hazards on and walk around the car to look for any blown bulbs. tman2093, flashers in almost all newer cars are electronic modules, not the silver flasher unit you are thinking of. Most of the time if a car still has the silver flasher unit, it is for the hazards only. Mr_D, you have it backwards. An increase in load will cause a decrease in flasher rate, do to the design nature of the RC circuit. That is why the flasher will hyperflash when a bulb is out. You are correct about not fully engaging the turn stalk to get hyperflash though. That really annoys me at times. For loads of information on this series of Regals you guys and gals really need to check out www.regalgs.org 99GSX 08-31-2004, 02:56 AM Also may wanna check this out, the wrong bulb will lite up but may not flash, check that the numbers coincide with what is called for by the manufacturer. Being a 97-04 Regal. 3357 (or 4357 if you can find one) should do the trick in the front (park lamps) and correct me if im wrong but i think its a 197 in the rear. 99GSX "1Kwik6" Booyahh 09-12-2004, 02:30 PM My mom also had the same problem in her century. It turned out to be a faulty signal lever which she had replaced at a cost of $300. the problem had started out exactly as you described and eventually became worse. It got to the point where the only way to get the left signal to work properly was to first turn on the hazards then signal left and turn of the hazards so the left signal would remain blinking. I don't know if this helps but good luck in solving your problem. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
