Hey everyone,

Cars I was thinking about:
Prelude SI/SH
Integra TypeR/GS-R
Celica GT/GT-S/GTFour (haha)
Supra mk3
VW Jetta Vr6
VW Corrado Vr6
VW Golf GTI
240SX s13/s14
200 SE-R
Classic Sentra SE-R
Datsun 240z/280zturbo
Eclipse 1stgen/maybe 2nd
Gallant Vr4 if I can find one
Mustang GT 89-93
Probe GT (mx6) 93-97
Subaru SVX

Now I know I can find basically any of the cars I listed for 5000 in good shape. But being a 19 year old male and having a DUI on my record I figure that insurance is going to kill me. What rates do you guys pay for your cars, and what state/region are you in. And when you give me suggestions on what car I should look into please be weary of the insurance that car carries with it. I have been doing a lot of research and the only thing that I didn’t really take into consideration was winter driving but it shouldn’t be that bad because my mom has a 4x4 96 Rodeo.

What car/mods would you guys buy with this money? I have a friend or two that are interested in cars; one of them recently purchased a 91 GS (T) Eclipse. That car is fucking fast and its sleeper VIN is for a GS but the previous owner heavily moded the car with a big turbo, intercooler, turbo timer, boost controller, the works, I think he has 27 pounds of boost he said. I’m not sure on all of the numbers because their from my friend who isn’t the most reliable and likes tot talk a lot. So what ever car I do get I will be able to do most of the work on it in their garages.
I currently go to college in the mornings and work part time at Super Stop and Shop i earn $7 an hour. But i am getting a job as a pizza man for 15 dollars an hour off the books. So i can afford basicly 175-200 dollars at the maxium in insurance a month and thats probably pushing it.

If you had 5000 to spend on a car/mods what would you do? Doesnt have to be a car off of the list.
Please take me seriously, and give me some help if you can, if not thanks for reading my kind of long post.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

you got a dui at the age of 19?!?!?!?!?! anyways, i am getting a nissan 300zx n/a which will have higher insurance than most of the cars on your list and i have a clean record and i am 16 and my insurance will be $175 a month under my parents. i would take the 240sx out of the list you have for 1) its a nissan and i love nissans 2) i would take one of the z cars you listed but it is really really really hard to find one in good condition.

Yo, 2 things, first, where you from on LI? 2, you're insurence is going to be like $10000. My friend got F***ed over a DUI. Lol, you have to be from LI because here we always drink 'n drive and the cops r the biggest a**holes casue they get paid the most in the nation to do SH*T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget, 1) NY we have the highest Insurence in the nation as far as I know... #3500+ just for liability by yourself if under 21 2) you are UNDER 21 w/ a DUI

Yeah dude, everyone on LI drinks and drives. All of my friends do it and I have 5 or 6 who drink and drive every night (I really mean every night this is how they have fun 'Lot of fun they’ll be having!!'). I’m from Nassau County right in the middle of it I don’t like saying where I am from exactly over the internet sorry. I understand all of that under 21, male, DUI background is going to destroy any possibility of me getting insurance. I just haven’t wanted to accept that fact yet, but there’s way to cheat insurance like just going under a parents policy or something like everyone does.

So being realistic here attaining my own policy would be nearly impossible on any car in the 90's save maybe for the Classic Sentra, or some other similar sleeper like a Shadow. So I guess lets redefine my original question; from my list or a car of your own pick the cars that have the lowest insurance rates. Than pick the car that you would choose to buy based on looks/potential. Remember only 5000

I really like the Volkswagens though Jetta glx vr6, Corrado vr6, Golf GTI vr6. Can anyone here help me with any information on insurance for these cars, any years?

Sorry if i sound like a dumb ass.

Yo, I don't know if your parents will go for that, because you will cause THEIR insurence to shoot up. I'm assuming you got the DUI driving someone's car and you had no insurence but they had it, right? Anyway, my friend with 2 DWI's has a car, but it is registred etc to his pops, under his pop's insurence... as far as the company knows, he is in Europe. He just CANNOT get into any kind of accident.

i have never heard of if you are under your parents insurance and you do something wrong, theirs goes up. my bro has had a few tickets that made his insurance go up but not the parents and he is under their insurance. but it might be different from insurance company to company and state to state.

i live about 40 minutes southwest of kansas city.

Well, over here, as soon as a kid gets their liscense, if the company finds out, they get added to your insurrence wether parents want it or not. So if the parents have 3 cars, all of a sudden their insurence is up becasue they have 3 cars, and now 3 drivers, so the kid is a primary driver. And here in NY if you are MALE and under 24 or something you are an assigned risk, and your insurence on your own is like $5000 for full coverage. Many of my friends have "moved out" to fix their parents insurence. If their would be, say, two cars, parents and then a kid, it'd be a lot cheaper cause he'd only be an occasional driver. BTW New York blows ass!!!!!

Yeah your right Joseph, New York blows. I did the smart thing today and went over to a State Farm Agency around the corner from me and ask some questions.

Automatically in New York State if you are charged with a DUI/DWI you are automatically placed into the high risk category and there is a mandatory surcharge of a 100%. Such as if you were paying 2000 now its 4000, 3000 now 6000 as the agent explained to me. Since my license is suspended for 1 year I can’t even get insurance on a vehicle until my full license is restored. I will be placed in the high-risk category for like 6 or 10 years she said two numbers and confused me but I didn’t really care all of this sucked to much already.

So I guess now the only thing for me to do really is pick a car that I want to work on for a year, right? I can’t insure it with my mom but if I have my grandparents insure the car and I will pay them in cash for the payments. My grandparents will do this because im their grandchild and they love me I can do no wrong.

you lucky bastard!!!
But then you will not have insurence of your own.. the car will be theirs, insured under them, right? So you can't really drive your friends cars and such.

it is always nice to have people think you can't do nothing wrong. what i don't get his my mom and dad's friend has had i think 3 DUI's and he still has his liscense and is still insured (i don't know how much though).
