This thing is a monster. Hits 240 mph! 0 to 60 is well under 4 seconds.

Yeah, TVR is a wonderful manufacturer. They've been quite productive as of late, as well. All recently they've released the Tuscan and Tuscan R, the Tamora, the Speed 12 has finally made it to production, and they are working on, if haven't already completed, a high performance Cerbera (V12, I believe.)

Looks like they made some changes to the exhaust system since it was a concept. still looks killer. 800+ hp, too.

anyone know anything about that Higher performance Cerbera?

enzo,
i think what you're talking about- the high performance Cerbera with V12 is the Speed 12.
Just go to http://www.tvr.co.uk , click on Models and click on Cerbera Speed 12.

Does any one know if any of these beasts (except the Cerbera - which I hear you can import), is available or will be available in the US? And how much if possible.

enzo@af
01-22-2001, 04:34 PM
No, the Cerbera I speak of is not the Speed 12. What I heard of used a less potent engine and retained Cerbera everything else (except pertinent changes to accomodate the new engine, i.e. suspension). It was rumored above 600HP, but nowhere near the speed 12.

As far as I know, the Cerbera is the only current model that has come to the states, but I've heard both ways about the Griffith.

The Cerbera Speed 12 race car uses the V12 engine from the original Speed 12 (now discontinued). In race form with air restrictors it put out around 600bhp. Unrestricted it's good for almost 900bhp. No top speed testing has been performed yet, so top end is actually unknown. It's only been in a wind tunnel recently.

No TVRs have been sold in the USA since the late eighties. There have been a few personal imports including one Cerbera, but that was recently smashed in a crash.

All the latest news regarding the cars can be found at http://www.pistonheads.com/tvr

Ive heard that it has a 7.7 liter V12 making 818 hp. From what I know, it does 0-60 in 2.9 seconds.

the speed 12 comes in 2 power levels.. 800hp and 880 hp..

its never been top speed tested before, its just theory that it will do more than 240 mph.. its got the material to do it, but it hasnt been done yet

These cars are beasts. Jeeze, 2.9 seconds?!?! What do you think about the dancing platform on the back though?? I don't like it that much...wouldn't it be more streamlined without it? And what is the cost?

As they say, "theres no replacement for displacement"

Does anyone else think that its odd how the brits tend to fail when it comes to mass produced performance vehicles, but they excel when it comes to being on top? This TVR has been known to run in excess of 200mph--even 250. For a naturally aspirated gasoline motor, this is beyond outstanding. 300 is the general mark for nitromethane force-induced burners. How many other 12-cylinder autos do you know that can run at airborne speeds? And this is just for the autos.

Many have considered the British Norton Nemesis, with its 235hp, 1497cc, V8 to be the world's fastest production motorcycle. It's not a drag bike, but it's just as mirror-less, with a rear mounted camera showing the past on a screen for the rider. Yes, its faster than the Suzuki Hayabusa, although testing cannot seem to produce a final maximum velocity, which exists somewhere beyond 220mph. There is even a 280hp Nemesis A, which I have no further data about.

How could you compare such a masterpiece of design to a pair of vulgar, unrefined and poorly developed american suedo sports cars?:)

God I love these cars. Sometimes I wish a good American magazine such as Road & Track or Automobile would do a cover article... but then I realize every rich fob and his dog would own one, much like Ferrari's and Lambos. :(

Just look for TVR Cerbera on google images... you will spend the next half hour realizing just how much you need one of these cars. You will begin to see that you could drive it as a daily driver, it's not much more expensive for a late 90s Cerbera 4.2, than it is for a new Corvette. It's a 4 seater, which the Corvette is not... It turns heads like nothing else.

Right now they are not importing to the US, which is a shame. They have been talking about returning to the US market for the last 5 years or so. There are plans for selling the Tamora and Tuscan, and probably the Cerbera as well. I believe the Tamora was originaly designed with the North American market in mind.

If TVR starts selling in the states again, this means you can get an older Cerbera from continental Europe in LHD, and register it as a new model year Cerbera, as in a 2003 or 2004 model.. :D devious, illegal, but possible. It was done quite a bit with Maseratis, they took European models, and registered them as imaginary older US models.

As for the bike, you do 220mph on a track with a very nice smooth surface, on a calm day with no wind.

Pennzoil GT-R
06-30-2002, 05:39 PM
the main reason TVR's arent imported to the US is because the boss of TVR says he wants to make cars that he wants to make, and not have to build cars to US requirments and demands. There are so many of them around in the UK that TVR doesnt need to export to the USA to keep going, although i think they probably will eventually. I think most people in the UK get to see a TVR on most days!!!I sure do!

TVR's are a pretty common sight where i live as well. I think the only people who would seriously buy, and be able to keep and afford a speed 12 are those who have the dehumidified storage garage, and about 60 factory miles on the car :(

Well this car is in EVO magazine this month, in an interview with the TVR engine shop guy "Andy". What he says pretty much clears up any speculation of power figures, prices etc.. For the power figures, noone knows, the race cars were restricted to around 660 to 680bhp, but the fully unrestricted road car engine was only ever dyno'd once on TVR's 1000bhp dyno.......and it broke it. The torque from the engine snapped the input shaft to the dyno before a proper reading could be taken. The only way the car ever had a half accurate power figure was when the car was run seperately on 2 banks of cylinders, and each of the two banks was dyno'd seperately. From combining this TVR could only estimate the power, to be around 940bhp at 7200rpm.

And on it's price/availablilty. The owner of TVR drove the car once, and knew straight away the car was too dangerous. It was too powerful for its own good. Nearly 1000bhp in a car weighing just over a ton. So as for the rumours that one or two will be built per month for customers, its no longer true. The undisclosed number of cars already built have been locked away, and you will never be able to buy or drive a road going TVR Speed 12:(

Well if it is too powerful, with over 1000bhp, weiging just over a ton, then if you were to crash you would go home in a matchbox. With no airbags this would be a disasterous offering to the public. Imagine the insurance costs!!! :( Sad but you have to agree sensible.

jsb88

I just bought this months Evo on your recommendation. Now sit down and listen children. :D

The car is not available to buy because the boss of TVR, Peter Wheeler drove the car back to his home, and withign 300 yards of driving he realised the car was too fast. Weighing as much as an ordinary TVR with twice the BHP with its 7.7 litre v12 (actually 2 engines joined together) meant that it was far too dangerous a car to manufacture.
The list price for the car Ģ160,000 ($257,000) but he decided that they would never be sold for the road. He has had a few offers from poeple to buy them, but he has talked them all out of buying the car. Maybe they might be sold for racing one day, but not for a few long years yet.
When they were measuring the BHP, the machinery used to measure was destroyed by the cars engine, with a limit of 1000 BHP, so top speed would be well over 240MPH. The tests on the 2 engines linked together showed 940BHP. Buto n a car weighing 1150KG, any Mclaren F1 would not have stood a chance against the Speed 12.

Menu, it costs 3.60 here! (5.51 Euros) so you are paying 3 times the value!!

have you heared of the buggati veyron it is proberly the only car that could stand a chance in a race againts the tvr speed 12. it has 1001bhp
0-100km in 3.2 seconds 0-300km in under 14 seconds and a max speed of over 250 miles per hour. you might want too read that bit again.
BUT dont get your hopes up because it costs a whoping Ģ750,000 and well over $1,000,000 thats Ģ750 per 1bhp.

If TVR did sell to racers then they would probably make a few easy 10's of millions.

I think that tvr only made 2 of the original Speed 12's, both with the 850bhp 7.7L engine, but that never went into production. They're both rotting in the backyard of the factory in Blackpool, cuz ive seen them, what a shame. The Cerbera Speed 12 has the same engine, but in a modified Cerbera shell, which means that the Cerbera Speed 12 isnt quite as fast as the original. Oh, and tvr have opened a factory in the states i think, though i dont know where. They used to be illegal due to US emission laws, but now the laws have been changed, tvr have started selling in the states again. They're really cheap as well, a cerbera speed 12 only costs Ģ150k in england!

For a 1000+Bhp car? which would be one of the fastest in the world if made? thats cheap I assure you. That thing could kick the Enzo at three times the price!

As far as i know, TVR have recently (like in the last couple of years or so) started having dealerships in the US again. Im sure that i saw one in Orlando, not too far from international drive when i went there this summer. there wont be many dealers yet, there are only a handful in the UK, but you can bet that it wont be long before there are quite a few in the states.

A mechanic who sells LAN supplies...? :eek7: http://www.1337-lan.tk/ ?

"located in the Blue Mts. in Australia." Isn't that quite far away from Sydney?

The "admins" appear to be Alex Dan and Dave, a company on this scale (judjing by the website) would surely mean that you, Linketh would have a hand in the running of the site?

I am particularly interested in your very aggressive signature defending the fact you has these cars. You are new, has anybody even doubted you before this moment? (Linkeths cars list):

2002 TVR Speed 12
1998 Ferrari F50
2002 Maserati 3200 GT
2000 Ford Mustang

And his signature - "I own these cars they are very nice if you doubt me i will OWN you" Ooh Scary...

Just curious Linketh, exactly what kind of mechanic are you that you could afford an Arnage, an XJ220 and a 3200 GT. Also what does your dad do that he can afford a car that was never sold?

jsb88
01-09-2004, 11:33 AM
The XJ220 might be on sale as a company product, fathers money may have bought the Maserati, Arnage and Mustang...

Speed 12? good point
