96 Taurus LX with main rear seal leak96 Taurus LX 04-12-2004, 08:33 PM My car has been drinking oil for sometime. The sending unit was replaced because Jiffy Lube thought that was the problem. Another place put it up on the rack and told me the rear main seal was leaking and the oil pan - both need new gaskets. I am told that if the oil pan and rear main seal share a gasket it's not so big a deal. If they are totaly seperate it is a major deal. The car has 168K miles but everything else works fine. How do I find out if they share a gasket or not? middaughm 04-18-2004, 08:11 PM On the taurus's, the stock oil pan gasket is crap!! The gasket will not seal on the oil pan! My wifes car gasket ended up coming out and I had to replace the gasket on our 97, with a newer gasket, which has little fingers that hold the gasket in place. You might wanna check the gasket! It's not a fun fix, but it's cheap! Let me know if that was it. 96 Taurus LX 04-19-2004, 06:48 PM Thank you very much. I'll let you know. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
