S12l5maasimo 04-11-2004, 01:22 PM i recently bought a Kicker sub in the solo baric series. it is a S12L5 which has 1200 watts peak power and 600 watts rms. i want to know which amp would be good to run this powerful sub. i have some audiobahn amps that i have in mind but im open for suggestions bmwm3guy 04-11-2004, 01:31 PM Phoenix Gold Octane-R 500.1 Haibane 04-11-2004, 01:39 PM I would knock it up with a jbl600.1. PG makes crap now, don't trust them. And if you are not trying to save money, but still don't want to spend an ace load, get ...( http://www.avionixxusa.com/ep/products.htm ) oh wait is it dual 2ohm or dual 4ohm. P.S. It really isn't that powerful. I also would not match a kicker sub with an audiobahn amp. maasimo 04-11-2004, 02:07 PM it has dual voice coils and it is 4 ohm maasimo 04-12-2004, 12:18 AM what about the JBL PowerValve BP-1200.1 amp. it puts out 600 rms which is what the subwoofer is Haibane 04-12-2004, 11:33 PM yeah. maasimo that is what I meant aznxthuggie 04-12-2004, 11:58 PM usually when i get subs, i try not to match the rms, but get the rms of the amp lower than the rms of the amp so theres no chance the sub can flutter/blow.. but thats jus how i do things lol Haibane 04-13-2004, 12:45 AM RMS of the sub lower than the RMS of the amp? Here is a thought for you. I know plenty of people who run amps that are 1000 watts or so and onlly run subs that are lik 800 rms total. I also know plenty of people who run amps that are like 300 watts and subs that can handle 1000. These are the best systems I have heard. It is what I like to call discipline. Knowing how to keep yourself from trying to get that extra little punch out of the sub. aznxthuggie 04-13-2004, 12:50 AM hmm interesting, well most of the systems that sound good to me, are usually one sub, running on a mono amp, or 2 + subs wired in parallel, also using a mono amp... just from what i hear.. i guess i should try for myself, but my friend had a 15 inch alpine type R.. and he got a 500 rms amp, then he had to sell his sub, and he got anther one later, it was only 400 rms, an audiobahn, it blew in a few days, but the magnet was so much bigger, so rms should matter no? Haibane 04-13-2004, 12:57 AM RMS matters a lot, but setting the gains right can fix most any RMS matching problem. You should hear my 15" Resonant Engineering sub. It is in a 4 cubic foot ported enclosure tuned to 35hz. It gets about 800watts rms. aznxthuggie 04-13-2004, 05:38 AM so resonant engineering is really good? Haibane 04-13-2004, 06:49 AM It's not like it is awesome out of this world, but there are few other companies that are pretty good. I mentioned them in the other threads maasimo 04-13-2004, 04:52 PM so should i get a mono amp with the rms rating on the amp higher than the sub? any one else have any amps that they would recommend? Haibane 04-13-2004, 06:08 PM I generally prefer a mono amp with an equal rating to that of the sub, but you can go higher, gives you more leeway to properly tune maasimo 04-21-2004, 10:05 PM whats everybody's opinion on the jbl 600.1? it looks like the amp i want to go with right now sr20de4evr 04-22-2004, 12:14 AM I generally prefer a mono amp with an equal rating to that of the sub, but you can go higher, gives you more leeway to properly tune I always get an amp that's rated higher than the sub (well except for my current sub setup, but I didn't know all that much about headroom, SQ, etc when I got it). Headroom is your best friend, as long as you have some self-discipline. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
