I have an 87 camry, but having a problem with the brakes. Brake pedal gets progressivly harder to push; within about two miles, pedal is rock-hard and car will not move. If I let it sit overnight, it's fine in the morning - But of course starts all over as soon as I drive it. Pads, calipers, rotors and lines are all new. Unfortunately, I cant drive the car to a shop, because it locks up before I get halfway there. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.

Never heard of anything like this before, but I don't see how it can be anything except the master cylinder. If you change it, make sure you have totally replaced all the brake fluid in the lines. Might have been a contamination problem to begin with.

the guy I bought the car from called the local toyota dealership, and they said I need to replace the proportioning valve. a dealer only part, costs 195 to order ...but friend found one for 45 at a junk yard. what do you think ?
