Has Anyone Died in an F1?Stratoraptor 04-10-2004, 02:58 PM in the central coast website, it says that a few kids went on a 200+mph joyride and parished in a crash. i havent heard of any fatalities in a McLaren other than that website. im wondering if there have been any other deaths due to accidents that involve a McLaren since then. and if anyone has anymore information on the 200+mph joyride, that would be great, too. McLaren F1 Guy 04-10-2004, 05:29 PM That was Chris Dawes I believe. I don't know the full story, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he went out for a joyride with his buddies and collided with a tree, ruining the F1 and killing himself. Stratoraptor 04-10-2004, 05:53 PM i thought Dawes died in another car that he didnt own. MalkaJB 04-10-2004, 06:35 PM You can read the story about Dawes here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/300922.stm and here: http://sanfrancisco.bizjournals.com/sanfrancisco/stories/1999/04/05/story7.html and... http://www.siliconinvestor.com/stocktalk/msg.gsp?msgid=8446639 one more: http://www.thisisessex.co.uk/essex/archive/1999/03/22/NEWS14ZM.html Peloton25 04-10-2004, 09:36 PM i thought Dawes died in another car that he didnt own. Well it was definitely an F1 that he died in. The two theories I have heard are that the one he died in was not his own, but that it belonged to his father. The other story (less believable to me) was that the car he died in was on loan from McLaren while they fixed his F1. I don't believe they are in the habit of giving loaner cars there though. :grinno: Another interesting tidbit about Dawes is that the home he owned in was later purchased by Liam Howlett of Prodigy who also owns/owned an F1. >8^) ER Stratoraptor 04-10-2004, 11:00 PM i guess it must have not been his car if the one he crashed was burgundy. is Dawes the only fatality? mini magic 04-11-2004, 11:00 AM yes (as far as we know and not counting the 2 people he was with) tvrfreak 04-11-2004, 01:09 PM There were 3 fatalities. You cannot discount 2 and say there was only 1. Sheesh! mini magic 04-11-2004, 06:43 PM ok. Sorry. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
