I belive the starter is locked up on my 68 but its only a month old. When i turn it over i only get a click. I have tried jumping across the starter celenoid and hand cranking the engine. any ideas other than taking the starter out again.

Hand cranking the engine won't turn it over fast enough to start it.

If it clicks then either the solenoid is gone, your battery is dead, or the starter is bad.

Check the voltage to the starter. It probably is bad. Its hard to find quality replacement parts these days.

Hey,
Is that a 68 Dart 270?

Good parts can be had:

Precision Alternator and Starter, Inc (In Virginia)
I'm sure there's others too.

Check your Motor ground wire too. if it, or the battery terminal is loose, or the starter bolts are loose, it'll give you that symptom, even though it seems like that would be obvious, most people don't check the ground, and just the body ground will click the solenoid, but it won't have enough current to turn the motor over.

Otherwise, you can take the solenoid off and try to fix it, but it's a pain in the a$$ to find the rebuild kit or parts anymore.

The starter locked up and is only a month old?!?! Either you have a bad starter and/or a low battery. Low voltage will weld the starter brushes to the armiture or the armiture can have a bad or shorted segment . . .

I just had an idea when I saw this thread, I'm not sure if it will work, but it might be a start. Consider this: compression test.

The motor might be stopping at certain points where there is too much compression in some pistons, or even one whole cylinder bank where it is unable to start again. It could be possible, you never know.

This is a smallblock mopar V8 right?

I think this is a dead thread.
He posted once.
Too bad. Would have been fun to have a dart thread, but I see no one seems to care...(wah..)
