Please Help!!!
I have a '99 Dodge Neon with 80K miles on it.

In January, my father and I drove it to Florida and back from New Mexico for a funeral. No problems whatsoever on the trip, but shortly after we returned, my battery started going dead.

We replaced the alternator belt. We replaced the battery. We replaced the alternator. It still keeps going dead after in sets for 6 or more hours.

If I disconnect the battery at night, and then connect it again in the morning, it is fine. But if I don't, it's toast. I even disconnected the starter from the battery, but left the battery connected and it was dead this morning.

So it's not the battery, alternator, starter, or belts... and I don't notice any lights being left on.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmmm. Shorts are nasty little things that love to do that sometimes. And are a pain in the ass to find. You might want to take it in before you replace anything else. You should be able to take the alt. back if it's still new enough.

Something is surely staying alive when you take the key out. Disconnect the battery, and put a test light in series with the battery (one end on the battery and the other on the cable). The test light will light up. Disconnect the main alternator wire and watch the test light. If it goes off, you have a defective alternator. If not then making sure the door is closed or the door jamb depressed, pull one fuse at a time till the test light goes out. The fuse that kills the test light is the one that is causing the problem. Then you need to follow the circuit, identify and correct the problem.
Good Luck.
