Rear Speakers for my 1995 Honda Civic DXMunG35 04-08-2004, 12:08 AM Hey everyone, I'm a bit a newbie around here and the whole car thing I'd say... but yeah before i went tearing through my car i was wondering if anyone knew what kind of speakers the a 1995 Honda Civic DX Sedan (4-Door) would take and also if it was pre-wire for them as i do not have speakers in the rear deck right now. Also, are there any reccomendations for speakers that would fit in both, front and rear without much cutting/shaving? Since this is is my first project on my car, I'll add more :cwm27: "stupid" :cwm27: questions later... Thanks, Mun-G :screwy: damir831 04-08-2004, 04:45 AM I have a 95 DX Coupe. I don't know if the owner pre-wired it, but mine had wires for the back. I think you're supposed to use 6 1/2s. I cut some of the metal off and fitted 6x9s. mycivic 04-08-2004, 10:14 AM 6 1/2" all around. Also, click me. My EX didn't have rear speakers, the holes weren't even cut out for them, but the wires were there. mycivic 04-08-2004, 02:48 PM all the cars come with it prewired from the factory. SilverY2KCivic 04-09-2004, 05:10 AM Yup, pre-wired. You'll have to cut out the holes for them though, but 5th genCivic's like your '95 sedan can accomidate "6 1/2's normally. With some additional cutting you can probably get some 6x9's to fit which would sound MUCH better. mycivic 04-09-2004, 12:03 PM With some additional cutting you can probably get some 6x9's to fit which would sound MUCH better. Lots of the audio shops I went to said this isnt advisable for 7th gens. They said might ruin the frame or something. snowman2005 04-09-2004, 10:55 PM i cut and put 6*9. devenatly worth the work MunG35 04-10-2004, 02:56 AM awesome. thanks guys. SilverY2KCivic 04-10-2004, 05:52 PM Lots of the audio shops I went to said this isnt advisable for 7th gens. They said might ruin the frame or something. The frame? You mean the actual rear deck sheetmetel? It won't ruin it, just make a different size than stock. Unless anything underneith in the trunk area would obscure it'll placement, those shops are just talking out of their ass. BTW, from the factory, 7th gens come with "6x9's stock anyways. How would it ruin anything? ;) GScivic7 04-10-2004, 08:10 PM maybe it's different for 7th gens, but aren't civics unibody anyhow eckoman_pdx 04-11-2004, 07:03 AM Yea, Civics are Uni-body frame. Also, typlically 6 x 9's are used for systems without subs, since they can kick more bass. Comp systems, usually run 6 1/2, since they have a low pass x-over cutting off bass the the 6 1/2's and all the bass comes fromt he subs. Then the high pass sends all the trebel and high to the 6 1/2's. If your getting subs, 6.5's all around sound nice (use a low pass x-over in this case). The subs kick the bass and the 6.5's clean trebel. As I said, thats how most comp systems are built. Without subs though, 6 x 9's will sound nicer. MB Quart has some kick ass 3-way 6 x 9's, can't remember if they are the discus or reference line though. mycivic 04-13-2004, 10:27 AM The frame? You mean the actual rear deck sheetmetel? I double checked it, mine came with 6 1/2"s all around. SilverY2KCivic 04-14-2004, 03:21 AM They said something like that that it might obscure something in the trunk. Odd, the actual spec sheets that the parts department at any Honda dealership, will pull up them as being "6x9's GScivic7 04-14-2004, 01:46 PM They said something like that that it might obscure something in the trunk. I double checked it, mine came with 6 1/2"s all around. ah, I know what you are talking about. They mean that the magnets on the 6x9's may hit the trunk springs. I was going to put 6x9's in my 4th gen, but the magnet would have hit the trunk springs and not fit anyhow. Went with Pioneer 6.5" speakers and there was maybe 1 cm space between the magnet and trunk spring. Everytime I opened the trunk the right speaker magnet grabbed on to the trunk spring. MunG35 04-14-2004, 06:22 PM But Is 95 A 4th Gen? snowman2005 04-14-2004, 06:38 PM 5th gen, 89-91 is 4th MunG35 04-14-2004, 06:59 PM exactly so i wanted to know about the 95 civic and installing 6x9's in the back GScivic7 04-14-2004, 07:22 PM All civics are similar dude if you haven't figured that out yet I feel bad for you BTW: you didn't say shit about putting in 6x9's. And my post was directed to Mycivic not you mycivic 04-15-2004, 11:20 AM Odd, the actual spec sheets that the parts department at any Honda dealership, will pull up them as being "6x9's Maybe thats the Si? Because mine are round and measured 6 1/2"s Also...all shops that I asked around said that its 6 1/2"s. I can take a picture if you want. ah, I know what you are talking about. I have a 95 EX civic and I installed some 6 x 9's which are def. the way to go if you're not gettin subs!. where the factory holes are, they 6 x 9 magnets will interfer with the trunk springs. simply cut holes farther forward and you will be fine. the only drawback is you may have to make a custom rear deck as you may ruin the cardboard factory one. i did it with 1/4 plywood and sub box carpeting...looks fine. Thats probably what the shops meant. It was for an '01 LX coupe actually which shouldn't be much if any different than the 4dr. ;) Ok, I just checked and apparently Honda does things different with the 7th gens, than the 6th gens. ALL 6th gens (hatch, coupe, sedan) came from the factory with "6x9 rear speakers. For 7th gens, ONLY coupes come with "6x9's from the factory. The sedans come with 17mm they say, which is basically a "6¾ size speaker. But like said above, with very minor modification, you can fit "6x9's mycivic 04-16-2004, 12:54 PM It was for an '01 LX coupe actually which shouldn't be much if any different than the 4dr. ;) Ok, I just checked and apparently Honda does things different with the 7th gens, than the 6th gens. I knew I shouldve gone with the coupe. :icon16: Meh...I kinda like the Sedan better. eckoman_pdx 04-16-2004, 10:05 PM Yeah, when a someone talks about 6 x 9's not fitting in a civic, it usually has to do with the magnet hitting the trunk spring. I'm suprised, my civic, the shop didn't explain that to you better. Did they just keep it short and say "it wouldn't fit"? I hate it when a place tries to give you that line instead of explaining thinks, like why, etc. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
