I have 1997 Regal Gs that died in the parking lot. I changed the fuel filter but it didn't help a whole lot. It starts fine, idles for 5-10 seconds and dies. It will stay running (or driving) if throttle is half way down or more. I got it home in 2nd gear by keeping the throttle half or better, it wasn't fun but it beats a tow. The abs and service engine soon light were on during the trip home ( I had to restart the engine several times ). Those lights are not on in park or neutral revving the engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you- Willstoyz

you need to scan the system for codes and hopefully that will lead you to the right diagnosis. Fuel pressure and/or sensor problem is causing your problem. Get it scanned and post the code/codes.

Try checking all the vacuum lines on the throttle body. A buddy of mine disconnected one while working on his GS and it would start, putter and die without extra throttle within a few seconds.

Hi, I have a friend with a GS that is having the exact same problem (right down to the it's stuck in the parking lot!) ... What was the fix ?

OK, found the fix. It's a resistor that controls fuel pressure at idles speed. Here is a link to the Website that posted the 'fix'. I tested it by jumping the resistor and the car runs fine. Replacement is 40 bucks at the dealer. A tip not clear in the article is this resistor is easily accessed from underneath the passenger side of the car in front of the wheel well above the plastic. The resistor is a white ceramic block mounted to the framerail.
