3 really important topics that should be coveredsaikou240 04-07-2004, 03:06 PM Since the faq page is locked, I'd like to just add 3 questions for discussion that I think should have been covered. I searched the forum and didn't find anything on these 3 subjects. But if they have, Suislide, just tell me to search harder and lock this thread. They aren't really performance mods, but I'm pretty sure most people will have to do them anyway if they own an S13. I don't think these problems pertain to the S14. First off, AC. Here on the East Coast, it's FINALLY gotten warmer after a recent cold spell. The S13 I believe uses R-12 Freon, which is an outdated refrigerant and costs like $80 for just the R-12 alone in the 240SX, since the EPA stopped its production. The newer refidgerent is R-134a, which is less effective but is must less expensive. I'm wondering what's the easiest way to go from R-12 to R-134a. If there's a simple kit that works out there, please put up something about it. Cuz the other alternative seems to be like replacing a lotta shit in the AC system = $$$ Secondly, the headlights. I like the pop-up lights on my car. However, in order to replace them, the entire glass enclosure apparently has to be replaced. I hear that there's a conversion to the H4 bulb type that allows people to just have to change the small bulb while keeping the glass front. I looked it up, and I think I found one for about $66. Is that about the price I will have to pay for this conversion? Of course...this whole thing can be bypassed if I just buy a Silvia front end conversion, haha. For like 600x the projected price of this H4 conversion. :screwy: Finally, I just wonder about those people who buy Silvia front ends. I know that the Japanese front bumpers are weak. Very weak. Well...weak enough to not really be suitable here in America. How do people who have this conversion done also strengthen their bumper to the point where it's possible to use it? Or is there no way and people just drive their JDM bumpers, praying they don't bash into anything.... Please, anyone with any answers or comments? musicsurfman 04-07-2004, 03:22 PM Ac Retrofit Kits Are Sold Everywhere Just Tell Them You Have A Nissan 240sx And You Want A R134a Retrofit Kit. Ok Jdm Bumper Cores Are Just As Strong As Usdm Ones.... The Difference Is That The Usdot Requires A 4 Sided Bumper Core And In Japan They Use 3 Sided Cores.... Just Weld A Back Plate On Or Use The One Already On Your Car. saikou240 04-08-2004, 01:29 AM I see AC retrofit kits for like 35-45 dollars, is that the right one? They say the whole replacement can be done by yourself, since all that really needs to be changed is the lubricating oil apparently. On the other hand, I see stuff that says that every hose needs to be changed. So, how much would I be lookin at to get the car retrofitted? Ahh....okay, thanx for clarifying that JDM bumper bit. Don't know where I heard that Japanese bumpers were weaker. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
