still not startingzdude 04-06-2004, 07:43 PM you all know my problem, not starting. i replaced the ign. coil, plugs, wires, dis. cap, and rotor. the rotor spins, the starter spins, the fan spins. everything spins and seems to work right but the engine doesnt crank over. i tried checking the spark, but still am sort of unsure of the correct way of doing it. am i sposed to touch the tip of the plug to a ground and try to turn it over, or the thread to the ground. btw, i still havent decided on whether im keeping the car or not, i guess im still throwin ideas around. im going to stick it out a little bit and see how long i can get it to run this time. G_@_SpeedAlliance 04-06-2004, 08:09 PM Ok here's an easy, (fairly) safe, two-person method for checking spark: Pull one of your spark plug leads off the plug, and out of the head. Stick an INSULATED screw driver into the end of the wire (make sure it fits without effing up the tip of the plug wire!!) Hold the screw-driver by the insulated handle (unless you enjoy electrical current running thru your arm, etc.) Hold the screw driver very close (but not touching!!) a bare, conductive metal surface. I.E. valve cover, strut bar, hose bracket, etc. The surface must be clean. Have your buddy crank the engine; look at the small gap between the screwdriver and the metal surface you're using for a ground. You should see a small spark. This is best done out of direct sun light (so you can see the spark if it's there) That's it, you're done, looks difficult, is actually easy. (Perform this operation at your own risk. Warren G takes no responsibility if you screwed this up, and set yourself on fire, etc.) zdude 04-06-2004, 08:58 PM thanks for the input, but it still doesnt have spark. i just replaced the ignition coil so its not that, i dont think its the distributer cuz the rotor spins. could it be the ignition module?? im thinking the ign. module is a little black boxy lookin thing bolted onto the ign. coil bracket. am i right?? cuz my friend had his car do the same thing, crank and not start, and it turned out to be his ign. module TheLogikal1 04-06-2004, 10:13 PM try talking to your car. sometimes i try to say sexy things to my s14 when its giving me a hard time. then i start caressing the steering wheel. once it turns over i slap the center console and call it a slut and a whore. eurobeaner 04-06-2004, 11:03 PM humm...if your STILL not getting spark...it could be your computer...it controls everything..the ecm..or something like that...it costs like 80$ tho..mine did stealthj 04-07-2004, 02:23 AM do a compression test? PureSXyness 04-07-2004, 02:35 AM try talking to your car. sometimes i try to say sexy things to my s14 when its giving me a hard time. then i start caressing the steering wheel. once it turns over i slap the center console and call it a slut and a whore. don't forget to caress the shifter, you know, give it a good rub vsiev 04-07-2004, 11:48 AM did you installed the distributor correctly? did you take out the whole distributor out( has gears at the end of it) and did you put it back correctly? If you don't, it won't start period cause of miss firing. Had to turn the dist over and over again until i had it to the right spot. Also change out that battery or try jump starting it first. zdude 04-07-2004, 03:37 PM yeah, new battery too, i only did the distributer cap, not the whole thing, and i try jump starting it all the time. no spark, im thinking it could be the ignition module, but i dont wanna be stupid and buy a new one w/out knowing what is actually wrong first. 120$ for a new module... im also thinking i could have gotten the wrong ignition coil cuz i just went to a place downtown, and talked to them about what could be wrong, and they looked up the ign, coil and said there is two. i bought the one i have now at napa, and they rip you off. i have free towing up to 50 miles so maybe ill just tow it to a shop so they can figure it out. im sick of playin with it. i just want to get is started, and next time it breaks down, im parting it out, then selling whatever is left as one piece, maybe someone will bite with the intention of rebuilding and redoing everything on the car. kingcarm 04-07-2004, 04:30 PM Dude stop dicking around with your car and just bring it to your local Nissan dealer and let them fix it. vsiev 04-07-2004, 05:16 PM if you want to sell parts from it let me know, i pretty much need the interior. But hey good luck i know you are frustrated and tired of it. Trying to get this hicas smogged and registered is a pain in the ass....took it to get it diagnosed. Hopefully we can solve the problem asap and get it to pass smog. zdude 04-07-2004, 06:52 PM good luck on the smog... I FIXED IT !!!!!!!!! all it was was some stupid wire that the kid before me spliced into the ign. coil harness, there was nothing on the other end of it though, so it was touching the chassis, making a ground. i cut that wire, and waaalaa, car starts just fine... like i said before though, if i have to spend another penny on fixing this car, im going to part it out, not yet though. G_@_SpeedAlliance 04-07-2004, 07:10 PM Bwhahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahaah!!!!!!!!!!! :grinno: that's fucking funny!! Well glad you got it figured out. I had a feeling it was something simple. zdude 04-07-2004, 08:37 PM yeah it is pretty damn funny if you think about it, but the shitty part is it held me back for a month and a half. im just so happy i got it fixed for the time being. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
