1965 Lincoln Continental Convertible w/32V swap-In Progress675datsun 04-04-2004, 06:01 PM Well I've put all my Datsun projects on hold for this one! My dream car(besides my roadster) has always been '65 Conti convertible...triple black with modern running gear. A co-worker just picked one up from Vallejo(hardtop) so hopefully this model will inspire him to do the Cobra/late model Ford engine swap. I spent like 2 years looking for this amt kit...it's weird that you can build a wagon out of the convertible... http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284box.jpg A photoshopped Conti w/23s http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284255144_17_full.jpg Nice stock hardtop w/whitewalls http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284514190_1_full.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284dz.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/13328420dz.jpg What wheels should I use? I was thinking 20" wires or maybe Cobra wheels to accent its modern driveline. Whitewalls? http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284contiside.jpg I also bought 2 '99 Mustang Cobra kits. I'm using the engine and rear IRS for the Conti and the other engine/susp will go to the Focus RS8 project! http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284ford_focus_rs8_concept_f34_500.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284wheels.jpg One problem with this kit is that the exhaust is molded in(shown next to Cobra exhaust and IRD cradle. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284chass.jpg Here is a pic with a 427 (1/24!!) in the Conti engine bay. A Cobra engine should fit no problem. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284cengine.jpg On a side note...I got stupid and bought 1/24 die-cast Silvia for the SR20 motor...and it's chunky looking but I tried it in a roadster and it looks alright... http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284srengine.jpg It has the requisite Xenon blue lights and lit speakers/amps for bass junkys! http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284lights.jpg Anyways I'll be scrapping this for interior bits. tonioseven 04-04-2004, 06:40 PM Great project!! I was gonna do something similar but never got around to it! That kit is pretty cool!!:) ol' dude 04-04-2004, 08:14 PM The Lincoln kit seems to be cool, I would go with the cobra wheels. Keep us posted on the progress! SpoonMan Dos 04-04-2004, 11:47 PM I think this build would look very clean and slick all black with wide white walls. The SVT wheels aren't bad either, but this car needs bigger wheels. I really like the RWD focus idea, keep us posted. GvEman 04-05-2004, 05:01 AM It will look sweet... but i think that you should use som other wheels than those cobra wheels... cause they do not fit the boddy. goodluck with your build Magyar1 04-17-2004, 04:59 PM get some 13 inch Hoppin Hydro or pegasus rims and use those wide whitewalls from Hoppin Hydros willimo 04-17-2004, 06:25 PM This is going to be awesome. I'd love to build a model of this car... it's just beautiful. I'd go with the Cobra wheels... but they seem a little small (honestly do, especially in the back). I really like sweet old school rides with updated driveline, and with subtle modern wheels under it. I can't wait to see this built up, we're expecting another stunner from you! However, if you keep putting your Datsun's off, they'll never get done! Sigmaman 04-17-2004, 07:15 PM Gonna follow this one. This is really groovy.Go with the big wires. Honoturtle 04-17-2004, 08:21 PM Looking good so far. The box art look like the old releases. Say, where can I get a Focus that you pulled the wheels from? They look very familiar to something I need, just need 5-lug pattern. supermod04 04-17-2004, 08:37 PM hook up the 20's on that thing! 86_SR5 04-17-2004, 09:32 PM Looking good so far. The box art look like the old releases. Say, where can I get a Focus that you pulled the wheels from? They look very familiar to something I need, just need 5-lug pattern. I think Revell is doing the SVT focus...not sure Id go with a full cobra wheel/tire package, and cut the exhaust off and just glue the cobra part on. Best of luck to you on this delightful ford! 675datsun 04-17-2004, 11:44 PM Thanks for the opinions guys! I think I will go with the some large Wires, if I don't come across some 20" bling-blging wheels in the mean time! Honoturtle You can get the 1/24 SVT Focus on ebay, here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=223&item=4203930739&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW Yup, the wheels are 4-lug but they are larger in diameter than Fujimi "17" inch Watanabes!!! Really nice for your Cobra R conversion. Does anyone know if the Revell 1/24 SVTF kit is out or not? Yup I need to get Datsun Roadster done.......ughhh, one of these days. 675datsun 07-08-2004, 12:54 PM Need your opinions guys... 2-tone or straight black? http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/13328465twotone.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/13328465black.jpg Macdaddy4738 07-08-2004, 01:02 PM straight black definatly!
