I have a 1995 f 250 auto that stalls when shifted into reverse and 1st gear. The transmission shop hooked up to the computer and it inticated that there was no problem, and thoughts. This does not happen everytime and sometimes the idel will drop way down, catch itself and not stall.

Do you have an "OD cancel switch" on the end of the shift lever? If so, you have an electronic A/T, and the problem is most likely a bad idle air control solenoid (IAC), especially if it has trouble holding a steady idle at other times, or stalls.

They can be "cleaned", but that's a patch, and new ones are neither difficult to replace or expensive.
