racing auto tranny - d flooring vs 1,2,d3,d4johneyou 04-04-2004, 12:33 AM i posted on like 3 different forums and pretty much saw these 2 suggestions 1. go thru 1-2- d3- d4 unsafe for transmission but quicker / but honda owners manual says its ok ?? 2 . floor it from d3 or d4 - d3 being better since it shifts at higher rpms? safer for transmission?? while some say its just as bad as going from 1 thru 4??? im not sure which method to use i dont wanna break down my transmission but i wanna be able to race ive heard different things from different people so its been confusing would it be better if i floor it and let it shift itself before redline, or would it be better if i dont have it floored while still letting the rpms go up to redline and then shifting Igovert500 04-04-2004, 10:55 AM Depends who you talk to and what there car is. I personally have tried both at the track: ratchet shifting and just leaving it in D4 and letting it shift itself. Neither was faster for my 90 Accord EX. A friend tried with his 92, and got the same results. I would tend to think that ratchet shifting d1, d2, d3 etc... wouldn't be as good for your tranny, I have seen another friend blow his tranny racing like this...(to be fair, he does drive like an idiot, and abuses his car all the time). Personally, I would think ratchet shifting may prove to be faster in some cars, depending on where they are set to shift, but it's not the best thing for the tranny. I am not saying it will destroy it, but it's also not the best thing...then again neither is racing...but who doesn't vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
