This is Revell's Shelby Series One kit with SAS S2000 roof installed, a project somewhat inspired by the KENZO. Not sure what the color will be or any other details right now. What do you think about it? :uhoh:

I love it, absolutely love it. I'll be keeping an eye on this. What other mods are planned?

Are you using evercoat? If not, what putty are you using?

Thanks! Yes, Evercoat. I'm trying to keep the model simple so nothing elaborate will be done, I like the car much better with a roof than without.

Don't you live in the Atlanta area?

Thanks. Does Evercoat stick to plastic well? Bondo Bodyfiller does not stick to plastic, and I have used Evercoat Metal glaze on some autos and planes. What product of Evercoat's are you using?

I like the car much better with a roof too. Chris should make a note on his site that says: Roof also applicable for Shelby Series 1.

Yes, I do live in the Atlanta area, but right now I am much further south down here in Florida.

Just a weird insight, the evercoat stuff looks like toothpaste.

It is Evercoat Eurosoft version, it sticks pretty good especially if you scuff the plastic before application.

Just wondering, the Atlanta club's meeting is tomorrow, I will be attending and thought you might be able to also.

Well, you already know that I'm not feeling this exact roof on this car, (looks a bit tall and a bit too far back over the rear wheel centerline) but I agree the car looks better as a coupe vs. a convertible...I guess I have this feeling that it should be a fastback like a Shelby Daytona Coupe...I've seen this kit w/a Viper roof, and it looked pretty sweet. Since you saw a Viper roof last weekend on another car, you must have had that bee in your bonnet.

Evercoat sticks better to primer than plastic. Primer sticks better to plastic. Dunno where I heard it, but it's true.

Bring this to the meeting tomorrow, I'm sure I'll like it better in person! :icon16:

I would love to go, but Im on Vacation down in Florida right now. As a matter of fact I would be catching some surf if it wasnt for my twisted ankle.

well, I, for one, am feeling the roof. I think the car looks ...more complete with it. I am really looking forward to it! I am surprised though that the s200 roof lines up so perfectly with Shelby windwo frame... weird.

Keep up the great work!

I never thought about that. Keen eye. I think it would look good the way it is just painted to match the interior; similar to a Mazda Miata.

The interior will stay in it's stock position subsequently there will be a rear shelf going back to the window, it may look funky but so be it.

just stunning...IMO, it may look better if the roof is lowered slightly...

PRIME TIME PRIME TIME PRIME TIME

Still smoothing the top, removing the ridges that ran down the edge of the roof because those lines didn't match the lines of the car.

Primed it so I could better see where the next putty session is needed. Also reshaped the leading edge of the B pillar to bring it closer to the door opening.

I think the shape of the side window opening works quite well with the side vents on the front fender. I still need to blend the A pillars into the roof better, no biggie.

Thank you Captain Obvious. I think he can notice those details, all of his models come out perfectly.

Hey Veyron will the final product be done in time for the May ACME meeting??? I would love to see this thing in person.

Hey Veyron what primer did you use? I really like the color, sounds screwy but it shows the rough spots better than any other primer I have seen. How much does it cost? and is it sandable primer?

It's Dupont Variprime, a two part automotive primer. Not expensive if you buy the quart size. This primer blocks red and yellow plastic bleed through and also prevents putty work from reappearing after painting.

It dries hard and sands very nice.

Covers easily with Tamiya white or gray primer.

Sweet thanks. Im guessing this is sprayed through an airbrush?
Does it dry fast?
Im guessing I would get this at Auto Color?

Yep, mix the two parts about 50/50, most of the time I have to put more of the thinner in it to get it to spray wet though.

Dries about the same rate as most spray primers.

Yes to all. It dries by chemical reaction. According to Mark Gustavson who you read in the magazines all the time, you should spray regular primer first, then Variprime, let it cure for 24 hours before adding more lacquer primer. Results may vary! It didn't work for me so well when I had to lay on very thick coats of House of Kolor lacquer. But then again I didn't prime the way he suggested. It's a zinc-based primer, good for etching metal surfaces (like diecast) so the paint will stick to the metal surface. I don't know why he suggests starting w/regular primer on plastic. For normal to light bodywork, regular primer works fine.

Yes, I have one of Mark Gustavson's books from Scale Auto.

I have painted real cars, but never used Duponts variprime so I am unfamiliar with it. It sounds like it entails a lot more than I had wished for; I was hoping to do some putty work, spray it to check for scratches, and work on it again in 20minutes.

I never spray regular primer first and I always use Variprime if I putty any area larger than a license plate bracket hole.

You guys have been producing some awesome work lately. Veyron's current work is like the epitome of modeling going on here...turning a dream into reality(1/24 reality anyway). I agree with SLK, I never liked the look of the convertible but now it's beautiful.
Man I honestly beleive that some automakers could benefit from following this messageboard!

Thanks, but the hood dips down extremely in front of the engine to form the air scoop, I would have to reform the hood to put a longer engine in it and that wouldn't be cool. :icon16:
