My 95 Villager with 93,000 miles suddenly has difficulty starting. Motor turns over, but it seems as if it is not getting any gas. Eventually starts and drives fine, but when I turn engine off, it is difficult to start again.
I have changed the fuel filter, but no difference. I have cleaned the distributor cap also. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
A. L.

Your fuel system may be losing pressure when the engine is off. You will need a pressure gauge to verify this, but another way to check it is to cycle the key from off to on a few times before starting the engine. This will run the fuel pump and prime the fuel system. If the engine starts without a problem, it's a good chance the system is leaking down. Possible causes include the check valve in the fuel pump, the fuel pressure regulator, and the injectors.
