92 Explorer Surges

The engine ran fine but leaked oil, one-two litres a week.

I pulled the motor out and replace all of the gaskets, except the head gaskets. When putting the parts back on I made sure to torque all of the nut/bolts to factory specs. Except for the firing order, everything went smooth and it started on the second try.

Now the engine runs but surges. Also when driving, there is a noticeable lack of power. I have a diagnostics/code reader and nothing comes up? I've looked this over for about a week now and cannot figure out what I might have done or missed :banghead:

It also has a low ticking noise.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

I finally decided to take my Explorer in and have someone look at it. After all of this, all it was bad plug wires? It was causing a vertical crack in the spark plug(s).

Now it runs fine, but doesn’t shift into over drive. The tranny does shift fine in the first three gears and reverse.

Anyone know what I might have missed?
