97 chevrolet wont start97chevyman0621 03-29-2004, 01:58 PM I am haveing trouble starting my 97 chevrolet silverado. It was starting after about 5 mins of trying but now it does nothing. We can pour gas in the throttle Body and it will "hit" but not start. I know the pressure has to be like 55 or 60. But what would make the pressure drop???? Jimmiz71 03-29-2004, 02:37 PM I would check your fuel filter and make sure its not clogged, also is your pump cutting out, whining, any irregular noises?? sometimes the fuel pump on its last legs works someti Jimmiz71 03-29-2004, 02:54 PM Sorry reply got chopped, sometimes the pumps quit, a friend of mines truck would start and run for a couple of mins then would die, we replaced the pump and problem solved, Ive also seen filters that are so clogged the fuel just drips out. anyways its a place to start. -Jimmy 97chevyman0621 03-29-2004, 04:06 PM Ok i have been through that. It still wont start it is getting gas all the way to the intake but it still won't fire i guess i am going to try a new fuel pump. I really don't have the money to go with the delco so i am going to try the $75 one and hope and pray. If anyone has anymopre suggestions please feel free to post them. Thanks Jimmiz71 03-29-2004, 04:22 PM You might try making sure your getting spark, check the plugs if they're soaked they wont fire properly check the wires and cap or coil. they're should be a pressure valve on the gas line near the manifold, using a pin push and the gas should come out under pressure. Good Luck! amac209 03-29-2004, 08:44 PM the number 1 cause of chevy no starts is the fuel pump. i changed at least 10 last summer. but if you pour fuel in the intake it should start. have a look under the distributor cap. sometimes the tip breaks off the rotor. make sure you check the fuel pressure before changing the pump those things are a rear pain. if you dumped too much gas down the intake it's possible you washed oil off the cylinder walls and lost some compression. did you check the quality of the gas?? i've seen people get vehicles towed in where the tanks half full of water of diesel. ..have fun with this one!!! 97chevyman0621 03-30-2004, 01:35 AM hey thanks guys i changed the pump and it is running great again. It even seems like it is getting morehorse power that may just be me. It was apain but it was worth it. I had to take my bed off. It took about31/2 hours tear down and put back together.
