97 chevrolet wont start97chevyman0621 03-29-2004, 12:54 PM I have been through this truck. It is a 97 chevrolet silverado 350. It started after about 5 mins of trying. Now it won't do anything. We put gas in the throttle body and it will "hit" but it just dies there after. I have had ppl tell me that it could be the fuel pump. What do you think?????? Jeremy-WI 03-29-2004, 08:14 PM Do you hear the pump turn on when you turn the key to the on position? Near the underhood fuse/relay center you should be able to find a wire(red I think) that you can put 12v to to energize the wires to the fuel pump(the key should be off) 95tahoe4x4 03-31-2004, 12:34 AM Take a RUBBER mallet and have someone crank the key, while you smack the gas tank, if it starts, replace your fuel pump. Hitting the tank can cause the pump to "jolt" to life, but if you do not hear a distinctive "whine" when turn the key on, I would replace the pump. Remember to replace the fuel filter. wihrenc 03-31-2004, 01:30 PM I had a similiar problem with my 99 Tahoe. I had to replace the fuel pump. I replaced it myself due to the GM dealer wanting $700 to fix it. The pump cost $335. It is located in the tank on my model which makes it difficult to replace. I also recommend replacing the fuel filter which is located on the frame rail on the drivers side of the truck. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
