Jeep has sat for two years un-started...What to do to help the engine before startin?GPN 05 03-28-2004, 08:34 PM I have an 87 Jeep Chero Pioneer The Jeep has only had one owner (myself) and has sat for 2 years un-started. What can I do to help the engine preformance wise before starting again. I have replaced the water pump, and getting ready to do the oil filter. I have been told to also flush the radiator, and oil the plug rings by a friend of mine... Jeepman600. I'm looking for in-expenive things to do right now... I will soon start mod-ing the egine with MSD egnition, and cold air, and a tac. Any suggestions would also be of help dealing with the 87. Still looking for suggestions about a knocking on the front end of the Jeep? MagicRat 03-28-2004, 10:07 PM 1. Change oil. filter and coolant. 2. Drain all the gas from the gas tank and put in fresh. Try to drain the lines or blow them out with a bit of compressed air, then change the fuel filter. 3. Pull the spark plugs and put a bit of oil down each cylinder 4. (optional) pull the distributor and look for the oil pump driveshaft, which you should be able to see down the hole. Sometimes its slotted, sometimes its like a hex shaped bolt. Usually you can slip an 8mm socket over the hex ones, or a screwdriver bit into the slots. Use an extension and spin it around (clockwise, I think) with an electric drill for 30 sec or so. This will drive the pump and circulate fresh oil through all the passages and bearings. Put the distributor back in the same position. 5. Crank it over with the plugs out for 20 sec or so, then put the plugs back in. If the jeep has been parked inside, you should be fine. Outside......I have seen engines start fine after sitting for 6 years, some have seized solid in 1 year of sitting. Good luck!!
