At first the thought of it didn't appeal to me, but my friend started telling me about it and I got kind of interested. I'm too cheap/poor to go out and buy the DVDs on my own (especially if it turns out that I don't like them), so I'm making him burn them for me. :biggrin:

Anyone got any reviews or anything to say about Initial D? I'd like to know more about it before I start watching it.

Initial D is very good. The drifting CG is very nicely done, and every race there's a new song. Some race even have two songs. Definitely a good racing anime.

How many episodes and dvds of initial D are there... really!? I only saw that there were only 5 dvds total, and 100 episodes! so I dont know...

the 1st stage has 26 eps, 2nd has 13, and then theres the movie (3rd stage), special stage, battle stage, and now 4th stage is airing which is going to be 14 eps.

Oh and by the way, this is my favorite anime by far and I recommend this to anyone who likes racing.

Any idea when the Stage 4 dvd's will be avalible?

Initial D is more than just racing, it also has a decent story line... but the racing does kick ass!

you mean american dub with tricked out visuals right? yea it is shit. Tokyo Pop was on crack when they decided to do that stupid shit. Thank fuck they put the original dub on with original video
though it should've been that way in the first place. Don't get me started on the names either.

It's a lot different from the Manga; I'm just glad we can even get it at all!! I go to the bookstore and read the Manga for free since it's untouched and original, then I watch the videoand compare the two. I'll eventually sell the whole DVD set once I watch them all and get a burner to make copies.

lol NSX yeah, I just dont understand it the demographic for anime is really 17 and up why in the hell do they feel the need to "dumb" it down for americans? Like what Funimation did to dragonball-Z they litterally murderd that anime to the point they even changed the story line. I seriously cant stand all of these dubs. Lol and whos the people that actually makes these? Its like they feel since its animated its a cartoon, ah well I say Pokemon screwed alot of animes lol. If it wasnt for that damn yellow Rat some Dubd animes would actually be ok. Only ok dub Ive seen is Kenshin even though it still sorta sucks compared to the subd you gotta admit its not that horribly bad.

OH and the beauty about the orignal Initial D's is that they actually teach you things. Lol in the AMerican version they mess the dialog up so it comes out all Fast and the Furious like. So you dont learn a damn thing. Honestly I didnt love the story to Initial D I thought it was rather thin and the series wasnt long enough. But what they taught you through out the series is actually relevant lol but man the 2nd stage is the most bad ass yall need to Dl those from Kazaa lite or something. Especially that race with those two females in a S13 lol that was pimp.

I think Initial D just added to my obsession with the Toyota Corolla, if you will Trueno. I've seen subtitle version, but yet to see the American version, from your explanations I don't really see what could be so bad about it.

I was able to watch the first two episodes of 4th stage, and didn't think it was that interesting so far. The idea of having someone tell Takumi what he should do instead of him ridding on mostly instinct takes away what we have learned about the character through first and second stage. I hope to some day collect the Japanese Manga set, which I hope my little Japanese skill can help me with. :)

I just bought the first 5 volumes of the Tokyo pop DVDs. I'm assuming these are only part of one stage, correct (I'll have 6 and 7 within the month)? I wasn't into Initial D when I was in Japan last, so I have no clue.

I'd like to get as much of it as possible, so if anyone knows any good websites where I can order them (Japanese w/subtitles only, no dubbing!), please let me know.

Oh yea, it is a lot better to own them (I do), but until you find them this is easier.

I really wish the Manga's would come out quicker.
It's only at 11 or maybe number 12 is out now I haven't checked in a while.
The anime kinda spoiled it a bit, but oh well.

The US release is crap. Download the fansubs off the net, they are much better and free. Eps 3 and 4 of 4th stage come out this next month around the 19th.

first of all have you looked at the date of the last post? 2004!!! But anyways yea i play initial d too although im not all that good i have played Akagi and Irohazaka. If you are going through a hairpin curve(or any tight corners) you HAVE TO use the brakes. Knowing when to use the brakes and to just let off the gas is VERY crucial. That will make a big difference but if you dont brake in the corners that you should you will go straight into the wall. I drive a Nissan Silvia S15 Spec-R. Im not too familiar with driving 4WD cars in that game but i have before. And also using the jump on Irohazaka will cut your times too.
