Personally I am a Mopar man, but of the two I would have to pick Chevy.

I'd have to go with Chevy too if for no other reason then the Z06

Well, thats a miscomparison. While history favors Ford, GM outsells Ford if you make a company comparison.

Gm outsells Ford of course it does!!!!!!!! look how many cars lines GM friggin has!!!!! Taurus Looks pretty sad..... the one's since 96 I agree but from 87-95 the taurus was the number 1 selling model, that's 8 years longer than any other model! Mustang is just ok? The must be something more than ok with them cuz they have outsold Camaro and Firebird together every year since 86'! GM is about to drop both those cars. As for the Vette, I agree the vette kicks ass! but comparing that to car to a Mustang isn't that a lil unfair? I'm mean maybe the $25,000 vs. $50,000 price tag isn't that big of a deal and I'm over reacting? from a European point of view----the Corvette is ok, fast but not so good handling.

Chevy would probably have it except for one thing-----the GT40, not the new one, the legendary LeMans winner, so my vote goes to Ford.

I like em both, but I would actually vote for Pontiac if it was an option...

GTO's and Trans Ams (new and old style) are so much sexier than most Camaros, and way better than all Mustangs :P

Ford has great cars as the Focus, Taurus, Mustang, all the hot SUVs, Windstar, Corwn Vic, Fiesta, all are much better that Chevy products, and that is traduced in the sales numbers

Ford outsells GM in the world market. Ford makes a decent rally car. Ford makes decent small cars. Ford has SVT and Cosworth (well, they made cosworth, tho they may not have it anymore). Ford has history too.

Chevy has the Z06, thats all.

In general I prefer GM (and inherently Chevy), but I'm really interested in the prospect of a new GT40. :cool:

GM is the worlds largest company, and has been for some time.

I think that kinda sums it all up really.

Thanks to the wonders of badge enginering by both companys.

The Ford Escort/Lazer Mazda 323/Famila is a classic example.
Its a shit little shopping cart designed by Mazda under Ford ownership. (except the GTR, and BFMR models which are damn fast little buggers!)
However they are sold all over the world with either Ford or Mazda badges. And in some countrys like here in NZ with either or. You can goto a Ford dealer and buy a new Lazer, or go next door to Mazda and buy the same car with a differnt bumber and badge.

Pretty much anything with a Chevy badge on it (with the exception of the light Trucks) in the US is sold else where in the world with a Pontiac, or Holden, or Opel or Toyota badge on it.
Chevy through GM is much more involved in how it brands its vechiles for differnt markets, than Ford is. A company which once its taken over another auto maker prefers to slap its own badges on thier cars.

So to compare Ford with Chevy, you actualy have to compare Ford with GM. Since pretty much anywhere in the world, including the US Chevy = GM.

And based on that Comparison then if Ford didn't own most of the worth while British car makers then I would have to say GM, and certianly if you look at the $$ made then its clearly GM.
But Ford is doing a good job of letting Jaguar etc simply get on with doing what they do best. So despite the generally cheap and nasty hold the technology image I have of Ford models here in NZ, compared with GM products, the new Mondeo, and Mazda 6 as well as the new Jaguar XJ6 show that Ford is prehaps turning around and imbracing modern design ideas, and modern technology, and GM prehaps needs to watch its back.

GM is Chevy, Opel, Daewoo, and endless others. Ford motor group is Ford, Volvo etc. Chevrolet is NOT General Motors, they are owned by them, but they are a seperate brand name. Its like saying that you cant compare a Mercedes SL55 with a Chrysler Viper because they are owned by the same company.

There is no distinction between the two.

and the Lotus Carlton is an Opel Omega with a Lotus enginered Suspension set up, and a Lotus enginered Twin Turbo version of the Opel 3.0L inline 6 cyclinder engine.

Infact in the EL version of the Ausie Fairmont (upmarket Falcon) there were even trim peices shared with the Jags, and of course the New Ford Mondeo in Europe uses the same V6 engine found in the new Jags, and which next year should find its way into the Ausie Fords.
Same with the new Quad Cam Ford V8.

There is no distinction between the two.

I think what you really need to say is:
Compare cars sold in US market with a Ford badge, with cars sold on the US market with a Chevy badge.
Becasue its the only place in the world where a distinction is falsely made between Ford badged cars and Ford motor group, and Chevy badged cars, and GM.
It's all part of the Marketing stratergys of both companys, and is done to attract the less educated and culturaly ignorant buyer that seems to inhabbit certian parts of the US.
The rest of the US car buying population is however aware of the lack of distinction (see posts further back in the thread for examples) and simply dosnt care.

In which case I have never honestly been a big fan of Fords, but my Favorite would have to be one of the Special edition MK1 or MK2 Escorts.
Either the Mexico, or Lotus, or RS1600 or RS2000. All great fun little cars, and in the 60s and 70s the equivlant of my Civic.

My Favorite Chevy would have to be the Corvette. Any year, and any model. The best Bristish infulenced Chassis with a great thumping American V8.

Your right the Stang has out-sold the F-bodys combined, but if you look at the numbers, the base models (V6 for the SN95 bodys and 4 cylinder for the Foxes) have been the big sellers, while more V8 F-body have been sold than the V8 Stang, and over half of Mustang sales are to Women. :D Just thought I'd add that.

Acually GM outsells every other car maker in the world, they also have the most brands. SVT has only made one car that is worth anything and it is the 03 Cobra, and for a S/C'ed 4.6 Cobra motor those numbers a weak. Everyone thinks the Cobra is an ass fast car, but sadly it's not. Unless it's on '03. :D

Definitely Chevy. Styling isn't even a close cmparison. The Focus is one of the ugliest cars on the road, and the Taurus is nothing ot brag about. The GT40 is the only great thing coming from ford. Chevy has one of the only true American sports cars, the Corvette. They also have some great concepts. The new pick-ups aren't the nicest, but still a lot nicer than Ford. And quality? Chevy by far. My dad owned 3 Fords and had electrical trouble with every one of them. If you want to look in the past, Ford may edge out Chevy, but as for the present and future, Chevy has Ford beat.

Ford they were the first US company car to win Le Mans with my baby (i wish) the GT-40. Can't knock that :silly2:

Quite frankly this is all quite stupid. I mean each brand has thier good cars each brand has thier lemons........And what are we supposed to be comparing anyway???? Ford USA vs Chevrolet??? However I am inclined to say that out the US arm of both these compainies- the Corvette is the only good car to come out of them- and even then the handling is rubbish compared to cars like the M3, Skyline GTR, 911 and even Nissan Silvias and Mazda MX5's

I've only ever been interested in Sporty cars and could care less if the Focus or Impalla is the best selling car or whatever. I like trucks too, the bigger the better, and between Ford and Chevy I'd have to say they both make mean trucks (whose is more reliable, thats another thread).

Back to sporty cars, right now there is no question that Chevy is absolutely hurting with their lineup. I mean, the Vette's are obviously the king of the hill, but cost a fortune. Besides that end of the spectrum, Chevy's got nothing - if they would just take the blower from our Grand Prix GTP and slap it on its brother the Monte Carlo SS, that would make all the difference in the world.

Right now the Ford Mustang's are some of the coolest cars on the market. Last years Bullet model was a great looking car, and this years Mach 1 is simply awesome - the leather interior, olde school fixed ram air intake, even the optional 4-speed manual/3.55 geared tranny. Ford will aparantly be coming out with more retro models (like the "BOSS" in the next year) until the totally new Mustangs debute. With the temporary absence of the Camaro, Ford has taken full control of the "Pony Car" market and will make a killing with these clever retro issues.

I live and breathe GM, but have to give credit where credit is due. Right now Chevy is hurting - unless you rich.

Agreed. The Tahoe looks good too, but that´s it.

Chevy makes decent trucks (except for the ugly Avalanche), but their cars drive me mild. Their styling is too weird. Ford not only has nice trucks, but the Focus looks good, and even the Taurus looks somewhat decent.

I still like Dodge, though.

Now lets figure this out. First off Ford has a Lower Number of cars they sell, yet the manage to make more money off of their Automotive Department then GM does. BUT Secondly, GM Automotive Sales actually only made 546 Million for First Quarter 2003 Fiscal Year compated to Ford's 896 Million. So this is what I have come up with.

GM Is a bigger company then Ford, but Ford Automotive is a larger company then GM Automotive.

GM Automotive Sales less vechicles then Ford even though they have 50+ more cars on their lineup.

So some of you are correct in the assumption that GM is bigger then Ford. But since this is talking about cars in Reality Ford is bigger then GM so your wrong also.

GM Asia and North America Divison are the ONLY divisons making money. All of their other ones are losing money. Ford on the other hand is profiting for almost EVERY division, so overall Ford has more value worldwide then GM.

Now this is not a post as to whether or not which car is better, personally I like ford, but I do like some chevy's. But as some of you said "You cannot talk about chevy without GM" where here it is. Ford overall is stronger then GM as GM is overall losing more money then GM, and sells LESS Cars and Trucks!

So to sum it up:

Ford=Less Cars they have to produce but they sell more resulting in a higher profit to loss ratio then GM.

Well wait, I agree on one part, my bicycle I had as a kid is better than any Ford made. But better than GM? No way, not to me anyway. Because we all know Chrysler make the best trannys right?::sarcasm::And they have other problems too. But better than GM? I highly disagree.

Their auto tranny's suck, yes. Especially from the late 80's early 90's era. But the manuals are better than ford/chevy. I am referring to mostly the muscle car era anyway, and we all know the king car was a HEMI Cuda.

The one thing I like about Chrysler is that thier vehicles are not only designed with America in mind- but rest of the world as well- for example- the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chrysler 300M, Dodge Caravan, Dodge Ram, Dodge Interpid, Jeep Liberty, Chrysler Sebring/Dodge Stratus, Chrysler Concorde and Dodge Viper are all very elegantly styled cars that offer strong power/performance and can out-handle anything made by Ford or GM in thier respective classes- hence why Chrysler is in most export markets- but GM/Fords American brands stay in North America.


Thats not to say of course that Chrsler/Jeep/Dodge don't have any lemons- the Neon is rather unfortunate.

Ford puts almost all models under its own name (Ford) while GM has different models in each different company. They could stack Chevy and do away with several of the other companies to beat out Ford so your arguement is silly.

As much as I hate Cadillac I really must say that Lincoln is by far worse- aside from the fact they were kicked out of Fords Premier Auto Group (PAG) for being so crap (ie selling piss-all) Thier only hope is the Town car- which sees services done as a limo companies favourite- or a freaking taxi! The Continental was canned, the Blackwood was canned- both for poor sales- and the Navigator sales are only average. I'm not sure how the Aviator is doing but I don't care either. The LS is just a shamelss knock-off of the Jaguar S Type.

GM also have Saab and a reasonable stake in Subaru as well- both those brands are extremely competent.

I'm not saying that I think the Mustang is gay, I'm just saying (because of what was said on page 6) that it is a Gay persons vehicle (remember the part where I said there was a thread about this on another forum with proof?)

Hey, the Geo Prizm is actually a great car. Its lasted a long time w/ little to no problems, and still runs strong. I also drive a 99 Chevy Lumina, looking to buy somthing nicer soon.

I wasnt trying to bash the Mustangs, I was just trying to reply to someone (on page 6). I like SOME mustangs, but I love to make fun of them. I'm not saying that the Mustang is for gay people, but I'm saying that it is a FACT that the mustang is gay peoples 5th fav car.
I mean shit, alot of women buy camaros so it goes both ways.

I'm sure when it comes down to it, both compaies are about the same. I would drive some fords but personnaly I like chevys better. I like the trucks better, I like the suv's better, I like the cars better (camaro, monte carlo, impala)
I really wouldn't take any Ford over its counterpart Chevy, but its all preferance. I mean in a perfect world no one would drive Chevy's or Fords (besids trucks/older cars) everyone would be in Lexus's or Infinities etc... (I dont like mercedes either)
Where I live most people either like Fords or Chevys, so we battle about it all the time (most of us like Chevys, Wow? same results in this poll too.. weird :P )

I never said the Geo Prizm was a bad car now did I? As long as it suits you and gets you from point A to point B that's all that matters. The fact that Homosexuals buy the mustang more so than other vehicles really doesnt matter too much, I just found the way you worded it before pretty crappy. And as for your last part :bigthumb:

One of my friends happened to have a Geo Prizm just sitting at his house, so he decided to go crazy on it. He is using it to teach himself how to body drop and put air bags on. So now its almost complete. I'll post pics in this thread provided its still open just to give everyone a good laugh.

I have a 2000 Ford F350 and a 2006 F250. I use both of them for pulling horses and I'll tell that there isn't another truck that will give you the same power, comfort and dependability than a Ford. I bought the 350 to pull my seven horse trailer and I'll tell you it gets the job done right. I travel from nothern california all the way to texas non-stop with no overheating and no engine problems. I just bought my 250 to have as a smaller truck. THe 350is nice, but sometimes to wide to go to the feed store or any other place. There may be alot of chevy lovers out there, but thats only cuz they like to get beat by ford! FORD IS THE SHIT NO DOUBT!!! U HEARd?
